Re: The October Challenge Discussion Thread: 2017
Five movies for today are done. The Serpent and the Rainbow, despite it's moderately slow beginning, really pulled itself together in the final 30 minutes or so. Solid film.
I'd rank them:
1) The Devil's Candy (2015)
2) The Serpent and the Rainbow (1988)
3) The Warning (2015)
4) Die Präsenz (2014)
5) Embrace the Darkness (1999)
3 and 4, both found footage films, are pretty interchangeable. 3 was more or less okay until the final five minutes, which were god-awful, and 4 was just generic throughout, but no real disappointing ending. Embrace the Darkness was terrible throughout.

So, did you figure out which one it was?Jigsaw wrote:Started Embrace the Darkness (1999).
Can't tell if it's a horror movie or a really sensual porno.

Boy, is that one that I don't recommend.

Serpent & The Rainbow is pretty excellent, one of my favorite Wes Craven movies still.

I will keep that in mind, thank you for saving me from that punishment (says one who sat through "Attack of the Killer Donuts"...)Jigsaw wrote:65% softcore porno, 35% shitty vampire movie.flyingspider wrote:So, did you figure out which one it was?Jigsaw wrote:Started Embrace the Darkness (1999).

Horrors of the Black Museum, 1959. Excellent movie! (In my opinion)

Checking out Never Hike Alone, a F13 fan film that's got some buzz on it. I'll have to rewatch 7 minutes to make it an hour, but it looks well shot so far.

Decided against the Friday marathon. I did it last year, and I'm trying to be less familiar with it the next time I watch. Arachnophobia, and now the original IT.

Damn, for a fan film that was pretty fantastic.
A little bit of nitpicking here and there (Jason doesn't need to keep stomping around like Frankenstein, god damn, it got comical), but the FX were shockingly good, very well shot, well acted, the Jason face money shot was actually good, and the ending had some extra surprises that were cool...even if characterization was questionable.
Proof the studios really don't know what the fuck they're doing with the franchise.

For those wondering, mainly D.
Happy Death Day doesn't use that 50 Cent song in the actual movie. It's just a birthday song ringtone.
The movie itself was fine, nothing mind blowing, but it's a quick and entertaining 90 minutes.

Finished the original IT, now off to the movies for the IT remake, then back home for Ghost Story, It Follows and hopefully one or two more.

Checking out The Babysitter.
None of the theatres had a good time option that was convenient for It, so I skipped that for today.
