Activation email

Post by showa58taro »

I’ve had to enable an account activation email option to try and combat the troll/bot registrations we have seen. If this fails the next step would be admin approval only.

Just saying so that people are aware of it and that we remain transparent.

It's obviously not working. Is there a captcha option? Or one of those "answer this question to submit" things, where you have to actually type in the answer? Doing the admin approval thing would work, but I'm just looking for options that won't require you guys to sift through garbage and won't cause a wait for new members.

Here's recaptcha. It's free, and has the documentation on how to install it.

Indeed. Going to change it for now to admin activated.

Think I’ve done it. If anyone fancies checking, that’s helpful.

Ok, that countermeasure definitely has been set up now. Here's hoping. :)

So confused. We've got anti-bot stuff, we now also have the recaptcha option enabled as well as an activation e-mail...

How are we getting essay-writing bots?

Since this is about bots, thought I'd list the one's I saw that need pruning.

rosalynbh2
rowenafw3
genany2
DavinSt
MeighUnoge

The last two might be legit, but the profiles are suspect.

Tried for 2 hours to get back on today. Never got a verification code sent to email. Attempted 2 other emails with new registration and still did not receive code
if it wasn't for a save text with my password I still would be stuck out.. weird not getting verification emails on 3 different email accounts . Thought I should let you know

Is it a personal activation or is it automatic? I'd assume automatic, but if you didn't get anything for hours, that says otherwise

i don't understand why the activation email wouldn't be sent/received, but it's happened twice now, at least. i can't figure it out on my end.

Had the same issue here. I tried two different emails, but never received verification codes either. My saving grace was having old emails between Dream and I, so I contacted her and she was able to help me with it and contact Zombs for me. :D I could look around the board, but had no way of contacting anyone for help registering. Like a ghost beating on the window, trying to get someone to notice....

I suspect this activation situation is stopping new members from accessing the board :?:
