that's a little bit weird.DancesWithWerewolves wrote:I also noticed it opened on fewer screens than all the other DCEU movies, so that likely had something to do with it that no one's talking about.

I would rather watch Amalie than go to one of these flicks on opening weekend. Sitting in a theater feels like riding in a clown car.
justice league seemed to have a lot of hype going on. at least on par with bvs and suicide squad, so why the drop if it's all to do with hype? but you're right that box office take does not always equate to quality.
- I think you need to separate fanboy hype from mainstream hype. Suddenly they are positioning Wonder Woman as the star of their universe. Well guess what, this is the third film to feature Wonder Woman in a year and a half. You have not only seen her in a solo film, but also interacting with Batman.
- Release dates plus competition are always factors, obviously.
- Superman left out of the marketing is a factor. As one of the Big 3, it is weird especially if you are going to put him in the movie anyway.
- A villain no one knows. Neither a character or the actor portraying them are known by anyone outside of nerds. Having a team of powerful superheroes challenging him was not compelling in the way it was marketed. Superheroes are only as good as their villains (reason why Hulk movies underperform).
- sucking up screen time with boring underdeveloped characters. Adding one hero plus the villain would have been plenty when you already have Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman to dovetail into the story. Cyborg makes me less apt to want to see it. Scenes in the trailer with Gordon also seem bizarre, as this is supposed to be a planetary level threat, not one where the town sheriff would have any involvement in.

I just bought ten more Clint Eastwood movies.
I'm gonna be the old grandpa sitting in front of the tube watching a shit load of old westerns in his downtime.

a lot of those thoughts have to do with the actual film. so, it's not all about failure at marketing or critical hype.Foo wrote:Some thoughts:zombie wrote:whatever you do, don't stab out your eyes.Foo wrote:Opening weekend Box Office is 100% based on hype, not quality of the movie. I have not seen the film. I am judging it solely on the marketing. As a lifelong fan of Superfriends and Justice League, the marketing was not interesting at all.zombie wrote:a lot of those thoughts have to do with the actual film. so, it's not all about failure at marketing or critical hype.Foo wrote:Some thoughts:zombie wrote:whatever you do, don't stab out your eyes.Foo wrote:Opening weekend Box Office is 100% based on hype, not quality of the movie. you mentioned gripes with the content of the film, as well as how it was marketed. i haven't seen it either.Foo wrote:I have not seen the film. I am judging it solely on the marketing. Re: November 20th 2017
I am talking about marketing of it. What they put out as far as content is what I know. Looked like a lot of schtick to me.
