I guess I liked Southpaw. Gyllenhaal's character wasn't likable at all, though. Made it hard to really root for him. Then his daughter saying unforgiving shit made it hard to empathize. It was ok.

He really is unsympathetic. There's just nothing there to connect with him, it's empty drama, thus far.

The second half is definitely better, but I don't feel it's earned. I connected with Tom Cruise's character even though he was an asshole in Rain Man, before his character changes for the better. I don't have that here.
