i don't know if rogue one is worthy of it's own thread, to you guys so i'm hedging.

I guess I just took more of a rub against it because previously I was already complaining that main characters don't need to be connected to everything, and then they did it here, lol.
i mean, i get that if she was related to luke or han or someone, or even like as been suggested that she's rey's mother. that would be different than having a father and daughter in the same movie. but then you might know more about him, than just rogue one. so it would be a similar type of thing. i don't know if he's had appearances in canonical stuff outside of rogue one.
To my knowledge, he doesn't. It's all contained in the one movie. I wouldn't remove Galen or Jyn, Galen (i have no idea if I'm spelling it right) was definitely needed because it helped the "plot hole" that there was such a weakness on the death star, and Jyn was a scoundrel that came to the aid of the rebellion (hey, another one!). I would just erase them being related because it was too convenient of a plot device for me. I don't mind convenience for story, but I guess my line is where I focus on it too much it distracts me. This distracted me.
Should we take this to another thread rather than in Last Jedi?
yeah, i can see her being related could be off putting to some. that's fair enough. i just don't know how else to have it not be an all male leading cast. which also may be a problem for a lot of people, that that was even a consideration on the filmmakers' part.
how does this movie fit aesthetically with a new hope? does it feel like it was made in the same era / took place just before that movie? i haven't seen the original trilogy in a long time, so yeah.
Works for the side movies. We can throw Solo in here when more comes out on it.
I never had a problem with a female lead. I actually enjoy female leads (as long as they don't suck that is). I liked Jyn as a character, I just didn't think it was needed for her to be Galen's daughter. Maybe it was meant to get her sympathy or something, but on that level it didn't jive with me. I accept it as canon though.
I think Rogue One did really good fitting in with A New Hope, aside from improved cinematography and FX.
yeah, i really like good female leads. sometimes they drop the ball, as with any casting and characterization. but jyn urso really worked for me. i could see another movie or two with that group of characters, even though i know it's not gonna happen.

Possible. I know those zombie-trooper books were popular. I never read them though. I don't think those are canon anymore though, it predates the Disney takeover.
agreed, it doesn't have to be wampas. but that's just something we've seen that has a connection already. and seeing some half eaten upside corpse in a cave could be a decent horror image.
