Still seems like the company should give you a better heads up of your schedule.
Re: April 7th 2018
The only way they can fix that is if they quit taking concrete orders the day before the customer wants it. But they are competing with other concrete companies for business so they take every order, no matter what, pretty much. When I left work Friday, it was looking like. I wouldnt have to work, but people call in and order it next day, so here I am at work again. Sunday is the only day I am guaranteed off, but even then they're making us do a huge six month job starting at midnight every night. They really just don't give a shit.

Unfortunately, that is just the nature of concrete work. Weather, digging, waiting on inspection, pouring to beat weather, etc.Jason wrote:The only way they can fix that is if they quit taking concrete orders the day before the customer wants it. I guess I thought that, whilst you can drive a mixer, presumably you could drive something smaller and more routine.

Wouldn't it be safer to have someone scheduled ahead of time, then call them if they don't need them instead of setting it up so drivers are sleeping 3-4 hours before a shift they didn't know they were going to have until it was too late to get decent sleep?

For significantly less money, sure. Could be a pizza driver.showa58taro wrote:I guess I thought that, whilst you can drive a mixer, presumably you could drive something smaller and more routine.

Re: April 7th 2018
Typical schedule starts between 5-7 in the morning. Lately we've been starting at midnight for a big job, building a distribution center. When we're not working at midnight, we're working a normal shift. Sleep pattern no longer exists in this life.Dream wrote:Jason wrote:The only way they can fix that is if they quit taking concrete orders the day before the customer wants it. Also, yeah, would be nice to know shit ahead of time. Distribution center construction job has us scheduled to start around midnight, once canceled right before I went out the door to head for work, couple days later the job canceled while 40 drivers waited in line to get loaded.
There is zero prediction with this job. I never know when I start, or when I'm off. I'll get a text at 2PM saying I have to come in at midnight. Few days ago had no warning. Typically we all call the automated tape at 7PM. I called, it told me to come in 6.5 hours later. My commute is an hour. So if I fell asleep at the exact moment I calleed and woke up the minute before I walk out the door, I'd have gotten 5.5 hours of sleep. As it is, I can't control my sleep pattern. Can't tell you how many times I've went to work on two hours of sleep... as a TRUCK DRIVER.
