I can understand it in the traditional sense. Just laying out this scenario:

Bob and Jane meet. Things are amazing. Jane quits her job to take care of kids, or maybe Jane has never had a career. Bob, for whatever reason, becomes abusive at times. Jane is considering breaking up the family, losing her lifestyle, maybe even losing custody of her child.

Sad, for sure. I have seen it happen a bunch. Had to listen to the story way too many times in real estate when I had to sell a home because of it. Sometimes Bob resents Jane because at the time they need money the most, Jane quits working to stay with baby. Sometimes Jane resents Bob because he spends so much time at work.

you don't even know my view of masculinity. toxic masculinity is an often used phrase. i don't like using identity against people. i've already said that many times.

the danger of tying status to masculinity is that it gives the perception that you are not a man, if you don't reach "this level of success", or you don't have "this status symbol". if that status symbol happens to be a person, or a type of person, that person can use it against you. on top of which it can impact your self worth, negatively.
