May 17th, 2018: Ending the yanny/laurel Debate

Post by Jason »

The word is actually laurel, however, the pitch was manipulated. If you hear yanny, it means your ears respond better to a higher pitch.

I hear yanny, when the pitch is played at normal speed, I hear laurel.

Just like the dress being manipulated with light flooded on it.

meh, didn't seem to be anywhere as heated as the dress. When it was revealed the real color of the dress (I don't remember, but I do remember being right), those that had it wrong were still claiming it's wrong to this day.

That one should work for you.

I hear both. If I tilt my head it at all I hear Yanni, if I don't I hear Laurel.
THanks.

I don't hear Yanny at all, just Laurel. Pretty clear as a bell too.
That's all I heard too. My wife heard Gary? Lol

I actually read something that said most musicians hear Laurel. Because of the low frequencies. I cannot hear the high frequency which is why others hear Yanni. I think this is kinda neat.

Younger people will tend to hear yanni. Jig will almost surely hear yanni.

Cool Breeze will definitely hear laurel.

I don't think the pitch was manipulated so much as some people are more trained to pick out the higher frequencies and others are more trained to pick out the lower frequencies. The people who can hear both can change what frequency they hear.

That's just based on what I was reading though. The frequencies are all in the clip, just depends on you, your focus, the volume you play it at, the quality of your speakers, etc to determine which frequency you hear.

Yanni is high pitched and robotic sounding, Laurel is more of a deeper male voice. And yeah, the recording is from a dictionary site pronouncing the word Laurel.

The dress pic changes for me too, depending on what lighting I'm in. And sorry Jason, but it was proven to be black and blue, not gold.

yes, lol. If they used a pantone color profile, I'd bank it was Process Blue, or really close to it.
