On the debate:

I need context cause a kid being given a twenty dollar bill for his or her silence is a lot different than someone who is raped and accepts a sum of money to keep quiet about it. It doesn't make the rape illegitimate, just a hell of a lot harder to prove because it calls his or her character into question. Details matter. Did they spend the money, did they put it in an account and just never look at it again, did they donate it, did they feel pressured into taking it, were they threatened if they didn't take it and keep quiet? All of that matters.

An incident of woman being raped, rapist gives her a ten grand (or one grand, or any amount really) to keep quiet and a continuous payment for appearing to have a relationship with her and then eventually is asked to introduce rapist to another young woman she works with is shady as fuck and should be considered at the very least immoral, even if not criminal (I would lean towards criminal when it got to the point of introducing the rapist to another woman who is unaware of any backroom chatter about the person.)

An incident of a woman being raped and being told she takes the money and stays quiet or he'll kill her/her parents/partner/pets/friends/career/whatever and he's completely in the wrong and she isn't even if she takes the money and never says a word about what happened to her.

An incident of a woman being raped and coming to the rapist and demanding x amount of money or she goes to the press to ruin him publicly is just desserts in my opinion.

An incident of regretful sex and her claiming rape should be seen as a criminal offense and the accused offender should be given a full retraction and public apology from anyone who printed the story as well as entitled to monetary compensation from every institution that ran the story (hello forced journalistic integrity!)

If neither side can be proven: agree to no contact, restraining orders for both parties, mandatory community service, and therapy.

Moral of the story-don't rape anyone and you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Get to know someone before fucking them so you can find out if they are lying cunts and you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Don't let yourself be blackmailed. If you did something wrong to your family and get caught, deal with the consequences and move on.
