It was pretty prominent in the trailer too.zombie wrote:enh. maybe. that didn't occur to me, but it probably should have.Jason wrote:Looking up the quotes, they all seem to be from Guardians of the Galaxy 2. the only mcu related songs that i can recall, on memory, are back in black and the immigrant song. that's nobody's fault but my own.DancesWithWerewolves wrote:It was pretty prominent in the trailer too.zombie wrote:enh. maybe. that didn't occur to me, but it probably should have.Jason wrote:Looking up the quotes, they all seem to be from Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Had to deal with that on Jim Croce's Time In A Bottle when Hangover III came out and dropped that song in the trailer with Ken Jeong singing along in the elevator.
I love that people are sometimes getting introduced to that era of music with these movies and stuff, but there's no effort on their end to actually search and try to enjoy songs from that era. These are the fair-weather music fans.

In another bit of annoying news, the registration for my motorcycle came in the mail yesterday, and the name they put on it is "Robert Dockhold".

Re: September 12th 2018
there are always gonna be fairweather music fans. but that's not everyone. there are going to be people that hear a song in an mcu movie or whatever other movie (like hangover) and dig it enough to check out further songs, if only from that specific artist and possibly also from the decade that song was released too.
Re: September 12th 2018
Aren't all music fans fairweather fans?
Re: September 12th 2018
i don't think so, but how do you mean?
Re: September 12th 2018
They enjoy certain music at certain times. Also, they prefer good music to bad.zombie wrote:i don't think so, but how do you mean?
Like a fairweather sports team fan would root for a team when it is good. I don't think a music fan is under an obligation to like all music in a genre or by an artist and they certainly reserve the right to be in the right mood.
Also, because music is aural, I think it is natural that how that experience relates to your other senses impacts how you feel about a song. Maybe it was a song you had sex to, was a set piece in a film, or was heard during some other moment in your life that resonates.
Re: September 12th 2018
It is no secret that a great music video sells a lot of records/downloads. Would you say someone is a fairweather fan if they enjoyed a song in part because of the video for it?
Re: September 12th 2018
does fairweahter mean not making a distinction between good and bad to your taste? i mean would you consider yourself to be a fair weather horror fan? would anyone else?Foo wrote:They enjoy certain music at certain times. i think that having associations come with a song, also works against you being a fair weather fan. but we seem to have a different idea of what that term means.
Re: September 12th 2018
i would not. there are some great music videos that are linked to my enjoyment of that song. it's not the whole of my enjoyment, but it plays a part for sure.Foo wrote:It is no secret that a great music video sells a lot of records/downloads. Re: September 12th 2018
i guess fair weather may not be the right term. but casual, maybe better. someone who just flips on the radio from time to time. someone who has a couple of albums that they love, but it doesn't go beyond that. i hear a good song in a movie. i want to know who does it. i want to know what their other stuff sounds like. i might not like it all, but i put effort into it. i am active in my interest. that's the difference to me.

Only a couple fuck-ups away from Robert Dickhole, which would have been epic.Jason wrote:In another bit of annoying news, the registration for my motorcycle came in the mail yesterday, and the name they put on it is "Robert Dockhold".
