Kawhi re-signing is only one possible positive outcome. Getting rid of DeRozan in itself is a great thing for Toronto. They had two choices: try to raise their ceiling for one Finals shot (huge upgrade from DeRozan to Kawhi accomplishes that) in a weak East, or rebuild completely. They get their shot to compete again this year, this time with a real star, and If Kawhi doesn't re-sign, they can just pivot to the rebuild instantly. Either way they are not wasting time with the Lowry/DeRozan team anymore. Great deal.Tiggnutz wrote:I cant see Kawhi signing there long term unless Derozan was still going to be there.Headhunter wrote:Really? Looks to me like it's anything but treading water. Either raise the ceiling of the current team as Kawhi is a much better player than DeRozan, or even if he leaves next summer you've managed to dump DeRozan's bad contact without much blowback and can start to seriously rebuild.Tiggnutz wrote:Kind of like treading water to meHeadhunter wrote:Smart move by Toronto. Re: NBA 2017 - 2018
I suspect this is more of a DeRozan salary dump than anything. I think they are realistic and know Kawhi is not going to re-sign, but given they already accomplish one goal with the trade, why not take a shot? Good to give yourself options, not many teams have a Plan B.Tiggnutz wrote:That does make senseHeadhunter wrote:Kawhi re-signing is only one possible positive outcome. I do not like DeRozan as a building block player. Volume scoring doesn't impress me. I get that he is a good isolation player and shot maker, and those guys always have value and a place, but he doesn't do enough other things to be a star in my eyes.
Kawhi could take fewer shots and still be a star. DeRozan's value is largely tied to giving him the ball and allowing him to score.

DeRozan isn't a high level facilitator, shooter or defender. If you're none of those things, you can't be a building block in the NBA today.Foo wrote:I do not like DeRozan as a building block player. Kawhi coming to the Lake Show next year and we didn't have to give away the farm in a ridiculous trade. #AllPartofthePlan #It'sMagic

Yup, this has played out so perfectly. LeBron will get the young pups battle tested and ready for showtime this year so they are ready for a championship run next year when Kawhi joins.

They'll probably win it this year, tbh. If the Nuggets don't go all the way.

Having Schroder backup Westbrook is nice for OKC but seems a waste of Schroder he's a good starting PG imo.

It's a nice pickup for sure. He can start on bad teams but he's a very good backup. Just not crazy about point guards who can't shoot.Tiggnutz wrote:Having Schroder backup Westbrook is nice for OKC but seems a waste of Schroder he's a good starting PG imo.

Lakers sign Michael Beasley. I'm so jealous of how much weed this Lakers team is going to smoke. It's like the dream team of basketball stoners and goofballs, plus LeBron and the young pups.
When's the reality show coming.
