Re: 10 Favorite Horror Movies Made Befire 1960
None of these are ranked for various reasons, but wanted to make these lists anyways.
By decade:
Silent movies (1913 - 1929): These movies are not ranked in any order, but are all recommended to an extent.
1. Der Student von Prag (1913) - German horror film, often considered one of the first existing horror films.
2. Pikovaya dama (1916) - Horror film from Russia before it became the Soviet Union
3. Unheimliche Geschichten (1919) - German anthology horror film. Uneven but memorable.
4. Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari (1920) - Great German addition to the horror genre.
5. Der Golem, wie er in die Welt kam (1920) - Classic German horror film, one of the finest silent horror movies.
6. Körkarlen (1921) - Beautiful Swedish film.
7. Schloß Vogelöd (1921) - Perhaps more mystery than horror, this German film is dark and enjoyable.
8. Häxan (1922) - Great Swedish documentary/horror film on witchcraft.
9. Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (1922) - Needs no introduction. A great German film.
10. Schatten - Eine nächtliche Halluzination (1923) - More unique than enjoyable, this German movie uses shadows to tell a story of murder.
11. Maciste all’inferno (1925) - This Italian movie blends fantasy and horror, as the Devil sends a man to Hell to tempt him to evil.
12. The Phantom of the Opera (1925) - All-around great movie.
13. Kurutta ippêji (1926) - A Japanese film about a man trying to rescue his wife from an insane asylum.
14. Midnight Faces (1926) - Fun murder-mystery that takes place in a Florida mansion.
15. The Magician (1926) - Great plot and fun film.
16. The Cat and the Canary (1927) - Fun horror-comedy murder-mystery. A classic, though drags in the middle.
17. The Unknown (1927) - Tragic movie with a great ending.
18. Seven Footprints to Satan (1929) - Part fantasy, this movie was a fun ride with an interesting twist.
19. The Last Warning (1929) - Basically a slasher, I can't express how good this one was. Sadly a forgotten silent film.

I don't consider M horror, so Reign can take his list and go home.

I've watched several of those Universal monster crossover movies recently and I don't remember feeling this way when I was younger but my god, Lon Chaney Jr. has to be one of the worst high profile actors of all time.

Good Christ does Chaney Jr. suck. His pathetic, pleading disposition every moment he's on screen makes my skin crawl. What a colossal cunt.

Riveting stuff.
Pretty funny that he ended up playing Dracula once or twice. It's hard to imagine a worse casting than that mopey fuck as Dracula.

That shit is great. After "stop it, stop it!" and "You can't run away", he drops that line. Split up proper, great for the #MeToo Movement.
