Doctors and Nurses are expecting to be paid fairly. But often they also tend to have better motivations than just cash. Because there's a lot more to that job than the money.
Pharma companies are definitely in it for the money. but how much you let them influence things is a different story.

As I said, Doctors and nurses may have financial incentives, and be paid accordingly. But hospitals can't be in the UK.Foo wrote:Do doctors make more than garbage men?showa58taro wrote:Again, Hospitals in Europe can't be "in it for the money" as they are allocated a budget and have to make it work, and then measured against health metrics. Look at the reasons people are on disability and you see just how grey it really is. But it can't be that easy, I thought Jason couldn't get on it, despite being in California (Liberal heaven) and with a legitimate blood-clot disorder. So it seems very hit-and-miss then.

Look at the trend.
Double the people on disability over a 20 year span. Consider also that technology has made most jobs much easier.
The down tick in applications since 2012 points to another disturbing trend, which is disability being used as an alternative form of unemployment insurance.

I have had three caregivers for my aunt. All three were on it. The current one is on it because she has lung damage from smoking, bi-polar, and anxiety. She is a lazy fuck, but she will spend hours to keep those benefits coming in. Imagine your primary disability is from smoking, and the government continues to pay for your cigarettes. That is really happening.
Re: Trumpcare 2.1
I could appeal the decision for disability, but I haven't. I don't think I'd win, anyway.
The issue is that I have a job. And because I've only had this job for a few months, I didn't "pay enough" through taxes to warrant disability.
In short, I can't get disability, because I am employed, and can't get unemployment because I'm employed. So I'm sitting at home with three blood clots in my lung, forced out of work, and zero financial income because I have a job. Gotta love California.

doctors should not be salesmen. i think that was the point. you can make money, of course, but that shouldn't be the priority. or at least not first priority. you wouldn't want schools incentivized to teach propaganda. you wouldn't want hospitals incentivized to sell anti-depressants.Foo wrote:Do doctors make more than garbage men?showa58taro wrote:Again, Hospitals in Europe can't be "in it for the money" as they are allocated a budget and have to make it work, and then measured against health metrics. Exactly. You'd argue that you need a high salary to justify the difficulty of the job and the physical and mental wear it causes. But you also want it to pay enough that they don't get a side job repping for Big Pharma or selling shit on the side.zombie wrote:doctors should not be salesmen. i think that was the point. you can make money, of course, but that shouldn't be the priority. or at least not first priority. you wouldn't want schools incentivized to teach propaganda. you wouldn't want hospitals incentivized to sell anti-depressants.Foo wrote:Do doctors make more than garbage men?showa58taro wrote:Again, Hospitals in Europe can't be "in it for the money" as they are allocated a budget and have to make it work, and then measured against health metrics. They'd be far more keen on helping out if I didn't have a job. But because I do, they look at my tax rate for this year, and not enough went into unemployment. It is our liberal system, Seb. So you have a job but you haven't had one long enough to qualify as it stands... That's a weird assed system. hmm.. some uk youtubers that i've been watching that describe themselves as liberal have said that we (as in liberals in america) are much more left / more progressive. so that's why i wasn't sure. someone like sargon of akkad (which i don't know if you watch at all) described it as liberals in the uk are more "equality of opportunity", where he said liberals in america are more "equality of outcome". which could just be in certain circles, rather than as a whole, or in general... but yeah, i don't know.Reign in Blood wrote: Europe will suck that fucking government teet until the tit falls off.

In the wake of Brexit, maybe? As in UK specific. But Europe in general Seb has called our left weak sauce and I know they want the government to take like 70% of their income and just hope they know what to do best with it. Because politicians are brilliant and government is good and always know what's best.zombie wrote:hmm.. some uk youtubers that i've been watching that describe themselves as liberal have said that we (as in liberals in america) are much more left / more progressive. so that's why i wasn't sure. someone like sargon of akkad (which i don't know if you watch at all) described it as liberals in the uk are more "equality of opportunity", where he said liberals in america are more "equality of outcome". which could just be in certain circles, rather than as a whole, or in general... but yeah, i don't know.Reign in Blood wrote: Europe will suck that fucking government teet until the tit falls off.
