Downplaying championships in the most individual-dominated team sport is weird though. You can exclude Russell from that discussion because he played on by far the most talented team in an 8 team league where most of the players were white stiffs.
Pure talent wins titles in basketball more than any sport. The best players win championships, they just do.

Jordan was on superteams with the Bulls. LeBron won a championship by himself against a 73-9 juggernaut. Led both Warios and Cavs in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. No other player in NBA history could've dragged that sorry ass team to the Finals and won.Headhunter wrote:Downplaying championships in the most individual-dominated team sport is weird though. I was watching an interview with him last night on ESPN. I was so dumbfounded I paused the DVR and posted the quote. Finished the interview later on and he said something like "maybe if he gets more championships he can be in that discussion" or something along those lines. It might be on youtube. It was an interview with Screamin' A.Headhunter wrote:Where?Jason wrote:Magic did.Headhunter wrote:Who said anything about rings?Jason wrote:Oh, Championships. Duh. How were they a super team? Those Bulls teams had one other star (who wouldn’t have been the best offensive player on most teams) and a bunch of role players. They’re not close to the 80s Lakers and Celtics or recent Warriors.Jason wrote:Jordan was on superteams with the Bulls. LeBron won a championship by himself against a 73-9 juggernaut. LeBron did not win that title by himself. Kyrie dominated in that series. Nobody wins by themselves. Tim Duncan in 2003 is probably the closest case you could make and he had the best coach ever.

Re: NBA 2019-2020
Bringing up the super team thing when LeBron teamed up with two other Hall of Famers who were the best players on their teams is weird. Cavs teams were talented and deep. And now he’s on another team with a Hall of Fame player that is deep with role players.
That’s what basketball is. You put a couple stars together and fill the roster with role players who compliment them. It has always been the formula. Jordan was at least on teams where he was the only dominant offensive player. LeBron had Wade, Kyrie, Unibrow. Magic had Kareem. Bird had McHale. Shaq and Kobe had each other.

They continued winning 50+ games without Jordan. Pippen, Kerr, Harper...Headhunter wrote:How were they a super team? Kylie dominated one-on-ones against the most overrated player in basketball. He had a decent series. He didn't dominate anything except Steph Curry. And Tim Duncan didn't have the best coach ever, Jordan did. Lmao...

Kyrie was unstoppable in that series outside of one game. Nobody could guard him, including Klay. Steph didn’t even guard him the majority of the time, not sure why you made that up.
Phil Jackson wasn’t even the best coach on his own staffs. Tex Winter was. Jackson’s gift was managing egos, not teaching basketball. Popovich coaches circles around Phil.

The Bulls were also floating around .500 before Jordan came back in 1995. Jordan comes back without any conditioning and they close the regular season on a 13-4 run. And that was the transition season where they didn’t have a big man.

I'm not arguing Jordan isn't a badass. I just think LeBald is easily the better ball player. The Cavs are a 16 win team without LeBron. The Heat suck without LeBron, The Cavs suck without LeBron, and he never had a decent head coach. Lue? Spoelstra?

Re: NBA 2019-2020
I don’t know how you can say easily. Jordan had almost a perfect career. Top 5 player in the league as a rookie, highest scoring playoff game ever vs. maybe the best team ever in his second year, becomes an unstoppable offensive player, then goes 6 for 6 in complete seasons once they put the pieces around him. Accomplished everything you can accomplish in 11 years.
Spoelstra is widely considered one of the best coaches in basketball. Riley’s personnel struggles have doomed the team but Spoelstra is an excellent coach.
The only bad supporting casts LeBron played with were in his first Cavs run. In the past ten years, he’s had 1-2 stars on every team and gotten whatever role players he wanted. Jordan never constructed his own rosters the way LeBron has.
Another thing in Jordan’s favor is he never allows some runt like JJ Barea to completely shut him down on the biggest stage. LeBron was flat out horrible in the 2011 Finals. Jordan never had a series close to that bad.

A Love + Irving Cavs team at least makes the playoffs. A Bosh + Wade Heat team probably makes the second round.Jason wrote:I'm not arguing Jordan isn't a badass. I will concede that you likely know more about basketball, I was never sold on Spoelstra as a coach, though. And although LeBron's supporting cast was fairly solid, Love did his famous disappearing act in the Finals and it was all LeBron with a few great games from Kyrie. I cannot see any basketball player doing what LeBron did to those 73-9 monsters in The Finals. Replace LeBron with any other all time great and they lose 100% of the time. LeBron in the 2016 Finals was the most impressive performance maybe in sports history.

Love was the victim of being the third banana on LeBron teams where you just don’t get enough touches and he wasn’t a good enough defender to contribute to the level expected of him. He never fit in the way Bosh did. What he did contribute as a floor spacer and rebounder was still valuable though.Jason wrote:I will concede that you likely know more about basketball, I was never sold on Spoelstra as a coach, though. You’re really downplaying Kyrie in that series though. He was incredible. They lose in 5 if he doesn’t have an amazing Game 5.

That was only a thing in that first Miami season when he got shut down by JJ Barea in the Finals. It’s not natural for him. He doesn’t have the pissed off edge Kobe and Jordan did and he’s been pretty open about that. He’s a nice guy and pretty corny.Jason wrote:HEEL LEBRON!!!

It's true, I remember that game 5, but they wouldn't have touched the playoffs without LeBron and would've got swept in the Finals, easily. We all know the hero of that team and series.Headhunter wrote:Love was the victim of being the third banana on LeBron teams where you just don’t get enough touches and he wasn’t a good enough defender to contribute to the level expected of him.
