Re: What Are You Reading
It's been a long time since I've read them, so I don't remember where it was mentioned, but it is. I know it's mentioned more in the last book, though.DancesWithWerewolves wrote:Finished Song of Susannah last night. It's....right next to Wind Through The Keyhole at the bottom. The one thing it has above Wind is it at least had me amused occasionally.
Also, I noticed in some trivia it makes mention that Pennywise being one of the 6 greater demons in that book...but I didn't catch that at all. Is that some hardcore between the lines shit that's hidden among the many many long conversations? I know I saw the Turtle mentioned a few times, but didn't catch anything about Pennywise. Perhaps because the book was so bad (for King) that I just started glazing over many spots.
Starting an acquaintances' book because I promised I would put up an amazon review. Supposed to be a YA novel, but as a zombie-apocalypse setting. It's called The Awakening.

Finished it. Up there with Moonraker and Casino Royale for the best of the books, imo. Solid all the way through.DancesWithWerewolves wrote:From Russia With Love
Still wondering how there was a steep drop in quality for Goldfinger, where the first half is great, but the second half is a sloppy mess.

Reading Jaws, a little more than halfway through.
Basically just passed the really cringey Ellen/Hooper affair. Book was going pretty good (even if a little different) until that dump of about 50 pages.

Personally think Jaws is a pretty terrible book.
Not removing until John Elway is fired.

I'm also disappointed Quint's intro so far is not at all like his intro in the film lol.Headhunter wrote:Personally think Jaws is a pretty terrible book.

It’s been a long time but I couldn’t believe how much I disliked that book. Characters felt a lot less alive and there is so much pointless bullshit in there. Spielberg stripping it down and building around the characters was such an improvement. Has to be the best example I can think of where the movie is leaps and bounds better than the source material.DancesWithWerewolves wrote:I'm also disappointed Quint's intro so far is not at all like his intro in the film lol.Headhunter wrote:Personally think Jaws is a pretty terrible book.

Re: What Are You Reading
Yeah, I mentioned I wasn't going in to read this expecting it to be anywhere on the level of the movie. I'll still see how it pans out, but so far this Hooper/Ellen affair BS really, really, hurt the book. I mean, 50 fucking pages building up them flirting and eventually shagging at some motel? It's not even a big book, so that's a pretty big chunk taken out for that.Headhunter wrote:It’s been a long time but I couldn’t believe how much I disliked that book. Re: What Are You Reading
Finished Jaws last night. Things picked up when Quint became a regular character, but the pacing became way off in the same way that Jack Torrence constantly leaving the hotel to make phone calls killed momentum in The Shining (book). They just kept going home for the night, several times. And man, Hooper was just an all around shit character, his attitude & everything was just antagonistic just cause he got his dick wet. I was amazed he ws for opening the beaches on the 4th, like he was getting bribed or something (he wasn't, his reasoning just felt that weak).

Re: What Are You Reading
Gonna start reading my friends other half of their book series, The Sanctuary tonight. Not really looking forward to it, but try'n to show support. I just know it's gonna be another 300+ pages of worming in lame teenage love flirting in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.

Finished. So far the worst of Stephen King's works I've read so far.Tiggnutz wrote:40 pages leftTiggnutz wrote:Didn't really care for the first 2 stories hopefully it gets betterTiggnutz wrote:Its actually a collection of short storiesTiggnutz wrote:Was supposed to be starting Misery but it didn't arrive in time for my beach trip and I like to read at the beach. Re: What Are You Reading
That's one I should get a better copy of. Pretty sure I have a first-edition paperback, but it's not in good condition at all. Bought it at a used book store in bad condition.

I also planned on starting the final Dark Tower Book in August, then I'll finally have that series done and can finally say I've read it.

Re: What Are You Reading
Started the final Dark Tower last night.
Was surprised he took Callaghan out so quick, that was disappointing.
