Just a Safety Announcement

I shouldn't have to say it, but be wary of who you give information to. Some creep like me might come along, find your entire family history, all your contact information, where you live, where you work. Getting account info takes a bit more work, and I have no reason to go that far. Luckily I'm not a psycho, so I won't use that information, but others will. Social media is the worst. The more you have, the easier it is to get info on you. For example, I had nothing but a first name, and a city. I now have contact info for everyone in their immediate family. I even know the pet names. Roommate? All their info. Best friend? All their info.

I know this makes me sound like a nutter, but I was just worried about the person in question. Last time we talked, they were fairly depressed, had a history of suicidal tendencies, and it's the fucking holidays. I tried reaching out, but got no response. So, creep mode activated, and I hunted down confirmation that they were still alive(two facebook accounts, two twitter accounts, a tiktok, and instagram, all with recent activity). Makes me feel a bit disgusted with myself for digging up all that info, but if you give me cause for concern, I'm gonna make sure you're ok. However, the person in question and I will not likely be in contact again, since I've found most of what they've told me to be bullshit, and I don't have time for that. So, bonus? I guess?

Total time it took? About ten minutes. Do yourself a favor, google your name. Google any information that is easy to come by. See what pops up and, if it's not good, find out how to get rid of it. The only info you'll find under my name is my LinkedIn. If you google my handle here, you'll find more, but nothing useful unless you're willing to dig through years of message board posts. The only way to connect my real name and my handle is if I mentioned my name on the boards and someone finds that post. I may have, but it's been ages.

So yeah, the internet's a scary place, stranger danger, and all that jazz.
