He wasn't super physically imposing, the intimidation factor comes from being willing to put his insane beliefs into action.Jmac Attack wrote:Wimpy Ed Norton played a badass in American History X.

no. but stallone was not a real boxer. i'm not sure that he would last a round with a real boxer. he played one in the movies, just fine.Foo wrote:Do you think the 80's Arnold and Sly action movies would have worked with Richard Dreyfus and Jeffrey Tambor in them?zombie wrote:i don't know. i can separate fiction from reality. i don't need to have a real superhero cast in the superhero movies, to find value in them.Foo wrote:Credibility has long been sought after in entertainment. Especially those close quarters fights where the woman basically initiates a grapple. They would get spiked on the ground or jammed into a wall and it would be over in two seconds.

It's a weird "point of no return" on the suspension of disbelief scale for sure.

Stallone has taken many punches over the course of those movies and his training is legit and lifelong. How many punches from 230 pound men is Angelina Jolie going to take in the face to make a movie?zombie wrote:no. but stallone was not a real boxer. i'm not sure that he would last a round with a real boxer. he played one in the movies, just fine.Foo wrote:Do you think the 80's Arnold and Sly action movies would have worked with Richard Dreyfus and Jeffrey Tambor in them?zombie wrote:i don't know. i can separate fiction from reality. i don't need to have a real superhero cast in the superhero movies, to find value in them.Foo wrote:Credibility has long been sought after in entertainment. fair enough. i'll stop watching jolie movies unless she plays a character who used to sleep with billy bob thornton or brad pitt.Foo wrote: Stallone has taken many punches over the course of those movies and his training is legit and lifelong. That would be credible. Her buggy whip arms firing a pair of desert eagles, not so much.zombie wrote:fair enough. i'll stop watching jolie movies unless she plays a character who used to sleep with billy bob thornton or brad pitt.Foo wrote: Stallone has taken many punches over the course of those movies and his training is legit and lifelong. agreed. we should tell everyone what they should like and dislike. see who can be louder and more overwhelming about it. it's not enough to just like and dislike things for ourselves. now, you're getting into the spirit of the times.Foo wrote:That would be credible. sweet. Where'd you find it? I searched F13th autographs, 99% of them are Ari Lehman. I swear that guy's single handedly keeping Sharpie in business.Jason wrote:Saturday the 14th!

supposing that is intentional by kubrick, was it something he picked up from stephen king's book but wanted to play it up more, or was it something he brought to the film without any kind of hints from the novel?Foo wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dW2GrG7Zk0U

The issue is the intolerant, hateful stance that the liberal Hollywood film-makers throw out there. There are people out there who make great films, but if I met them at a convention and they knew how I stand politically, I would not be welcomed. If I wore a MAGA hat, they would have me kicked out of the building. That would not be the case with any Conservative film-maker, guaranteed.Headhunter wrote:Post-Vietnam through the early 1990s there were a lot of movies pushing more conservative ideas and I appreciated that. It's a sad thing to see, but this is where we're at in society now. Nothing we can do about it but let these people be miserable.
Not much right wing stuff is worth watching, tbh.
But in all honesty, in a general sense right wing ideology just doesn't translate thematically to movies. There's nothing exciting about slashing taxes, social norms being upheld or corporations winning power struggles.
