Since I am a feminist and pro-regulated prostitution (which is a valid career choice), I guess you're wrong, Foo.

Your morals are not my morals, and you do not get to dictate what people in a society do as a career, no matter how much you dislike it.

Women and men who want to have sex for money is JUST AS VALID as working at Wal-Mart (plus, it likely pays more), and as such, if that is what someone wants to do for money, they should be allowed to. I don't care if it's a sister, brother, mother or father. It's their life - not yours.

It's not like some inherently dangerous drug. It's a form of entertainment. Just like DC flicks, only much better. :P

does that mean that you look down on others for still watching and enjoying it? does that mean you look down on those who make that porn?

It means I recognize my past behavior was harmful and have changed it accordingly

fair enough that you feel that way. it's admirable to change your behavior, if you think you're doing something wrong or harmful.

I thought feminism was about breaking glass ceilings, having them break ground and prosper in professions never dreamed of before. You want them to stay in the oldest profession in the book as semen receptacles… I dig your brand of feminism.

Most of the feminists I know are porn-positive. They just want what they see as less degrading actions toward women in porn (unless, of course, it's something clearly consensual, such as BDSM).

That said, I also know one or two anti-porn feminists.

Feminism is not something that everyone who considers themselves one agrees on everything. Many of the feminists I know don't have a problem with prostitution as long as it is something that is willingly done (which, I agree with Foo on this, is sometimes hard to determine).

I think that if a woman wants to be president, as long as she's qualified, she can go for it. But if she wants to be a prostitute, I feel no stigma toward that. It's about choice. I don't want women to remain prostitutes if they don't want to. I want those who enjoy prostituting themselves to be safe while doing so, and I want women who want other career choices (or no career, if that's what they want) to be able to go for those jobs.

There are a lot of idiotic feminists out there. Just like there are a lot of idiotic Libertarians, Republicans, and Democrats. And also, of course, idiotic Greens. But no group is defined overall by the actions of a few members.

So when Foo points out a self-proclaimed feminist he thinks is bad, and accuses all of feminism for it, then you can see how obviously foolish that is, especially from someone like Foo, who has the ability to know better.

That's another good point. Many porn-positive feminists enjoy the body as it naturally is, be it a little overweight, with natural hair, whathaveyou, as opposed to stereotypical thin blonde/redhead/brunette body types that often dominate porn.

I'll reply to any criticisms or questions later. If I don't focus on my movie-watching, I'm going to have a very tired day tomorrow.

Again, it is rarely a choice.

From abusive pasts to desperate presents, to coercion, to betrayal, to flat out lies.

- how do you feel watching a movie knowing the person is just doing it for drug money? Or because they are desperate to feed their child?

- how do you feel masturbating to the lowest moment in a person's life? Or perhaps a moment they trusted someone to share and they uploaded it against that person's will.

- how do you feel knowing the moment that gave you an erection has forever changed a persons life for the worse? That the dread every day believing their family, their boyfriend, their co-workers will see that desperate moment, not knowing before the guy came in her asshole, that she cried for an hour and had to be talked into it?

Again, you cannot be a feminist and endorse porn.

I have viewed photos that were not intended for me and were put online against the persons wishes. I am no better than the person who stole them.

i'll agree that if you watch or look at images that were not intended for public viewing, that's wrong. that is largely not the case though. if you watch re-animator, and see barbara crampton.. that is different than coming across a leaked video of barbara crampton in her home or something.

porn or not, you'll never know, for certain, who was manipulated into contributing to the making of that movie or whatever piece of art, or how many people were manipulated into it, if we're being honest about this.

Love,
