Honestly, never heard of this, but I see it has J. K. Simmons, so when I get there, I'll see what I can dig up

would be cool to have an elseworlds type live action movie (probably just made for streaming realistically) done in the style of this and the television series that went with it.Jigsaw wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 3:24 pm Jiggy watches every DC/Marvel superhero movie ever made #2:
Batman: The Movie (1966)
I've seen this movie a handful of times before, and in fact, own it on DVD. I've also seen a decent amount of the episodes of the 60's Batman series (though I have to admit I've not seen many in third third season). I don't know if people here even know this, but I'm a decently big comic book fan, and though I collect only Marvel comics, my brother collects DC, and so I've read a decent amount of Batman stories.
This movie is goofy and campy, and most problematically, it's overlong. It's an hour and 45 minutes, and it just drags at times. That said, some sequences are truly classic, and the dialogue - well, below's a list of some of my favorite lines:
"They may be drinkers, Robin, but they're also human beings - and may be salvaged."
"Oh, the thought strikes me. So dreadful, I scarcely dare give it utterance."
"I have the strangest feeling that l am about to be utterly and madly carried away."
"I dream of something quite astonishingly different"
And related to the last one, the ever-classy "It approaches a climax."
What's also interesing is that, of the four villains - The Joker (Cesar Romero), The Penguin (Burgess Meredith), The Riddler (Frank Gorshin), and Catwoman (Lee Meriwether) - The Joker is easily the least memorable. Honestly, he doesn't seem to do a lot. Gorshin's version of the Riddler is stellar, though - honestly, I found him and his bi-polar personality easily the most interesting aspect of this collection of villainy.
Look, Batman: The Movie has it's problems, and I don't love it, but it's a pretty charming, rather dated piece of entertainment.
Is this the Korean movie?Headhunter wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 8:21 pm The Housemaid (1960)
Caught this on TCM this weekend. This movie is absolutely fucking bonkers. Clearly the inspiration for Parasite but it’s actually crazier. I don’t want to spoil a second of it, go in blind and be shocked from like 30 minutes in until the end. Just one big WTF after another. What a delight.
