I dont know how good George Burns was in Sunshine Boys to win best supporting actor but I cant believe it was better than Robert Shaw

I’d put Nashville right up there with both but it lacks the rewatchability of either and is just a different thing. Cuckoo’s Nest did carve out a place in the culture but Jaws clearly won that fight long term by a mile.

Easy case to be made that Shaw deserved at least a nomination, perhaps even the award outright. Would come down to Shaw or Meredith in the under-appreciated classic The Day of the Locust for me.
