Nolan Arenado is unreal. Down 2-0, hits a 3-run homer to go ahead in the 6th. Rockies give up a run in the 7th and a run in the 8th to fall down 4-3. CarGo ties it on a single in the bottom of the 8th, then Nolan with the clutch walk off in the bottom of the 9th to score the winning run. They need to make him a Rocky for life.

Realistically, Loss Angeles is probably going to at least make it to the World Series. But it's great to finally see the winning culture restored for Colorado. They've shown signs of this kind of play since 2013. This year they're finally delivering. Four of our starting pitchers are 22 or younger, and they have overall pitched very well, deeply contributing to that winning record. They will be around for a long time. If we could just get one ace starting pitcher to go with the all-star lineup we'll be set for years. We did get an all-star reliever in Neshek. Looking bright for Colorado.

I also enjoy watching the Rockies. The altitude in Colorado adds an exciting element to the game, always makes them one of the most fun teams to watch.

It's always gonna be tough for them to find free agent pitchers on the market because of that altitude unfortunately.

It is ranked the 2nd most hitter friendly ball park in baseball. It has the largest outfield in the game, too. Need to visit it at some point in my life.

The altitude has been an issue, combined with ownership's laziness. New GM Bridich is on fire, though. No Elway, but he's getting shit done. A winning culture is being restored, and it will open up avenues for pitchers to want to join. It was thought Colorado was going to get Chris Sale before the deadline a few months back, but Boston started getting hot and became more buyer than seller as the deadline approach. Damn shame, because he is one of the best pitchers in the league, at the moment. Missed out on Sonny Gray, too.

I dunno, I definitely think the Rox are gonna have to start making their mark at the trade deadline. Only other way to get ace pitching in Colorado is to develop it. Not sure how much they're willing to spend on the open market but it's just not a destination spot for pitchers so it would always have to be an overpay.

Deadline was yesterday, but they got an all-star reliever, and an all-star catcher at a very solid price. Catcher was the only weak link defensively, and this dude (Lucroy) is arguably the best pure catcher in the game right now. We have legitimately lost a game or two because of poor catching. Just need the starting pitchers to all get hot simultaneously come Rocktober. The one-game playoff is almost certainly going to be against Greinke. Which is no easy task, but we've got a win on him this year already.

Come to think of it, it might not be so bad to have to overpay for pitchers for the Rockies because they get more value per dollar from their hitters than they otherwise would with that park factor.

I'm just not sure the best guys would be willing to take those overpays from Colorado with teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs and Dodgers willing to spend allllll the money at any time.

You never know. Greinke's ass went to Arizona, which is considered to be the friendliest hitter's park above Coors Field. And he signed with them when they were losing 96-98 games a year.

It's also a reputation thing with Colorado though. No other park has the "hitter's park" notoriety with pitchers.

Greinke is a pretty unique guy too. One of the most interesting personalities in sports.

The Rockies weakest leak outside of their bullpen has been the catcher position. They've rotated all season between three guys who have all been moderately decent hitters, but below average as far as the catching position goes. There have been so many times this year where Greg Holland is in a closing situation with an 0-2 or 1-2 count, and he'll get the batter to bite on a gorgeous slider in the dirt, but our catchers fail to get a glove on it a lot of the time and it'll bounce off their chest guard and the batter will advance to first. Sometimes they don't even make contact with the ball and it goes to the backstop. Always been frustrating to watch, but Holland has still come through every time. Best closer in the game.

Here's the point: The Rockies made two big free agent acquisitions before the trade deadline. Pat Neshek from the Phillies, an all-star right-handed reliever with a wicked wind-up. And Jonathan Lucroy from the Rangers, an all-star catcher, perhaps the best in the league. He finally made his debut for the Rockies last night and his second start tonight. In his first start as a batter, he went 2-for-3 and a walk at the plate. In the 9th they brought in Greg Holland in a 4-4 ball game just to get a Hold. After a strikeout on a slider in the dirt, Lucroy made a gorgeous game saving stop and tagged the runner out himself. He then went on to score the winning run in the bottom of the 9th on a walk-off walk to Nolan.

In his 2nd start, it was a similar situation. This time the Rockies had a 4-3 lead in the top of the 9th with Holland in for the save. Again Holland gets the batter to bite on a slider in the dirt, which Lucroy stops beautifully and tags out the batter. In both instances, not only did Lucroy get the stop on the ball, he got it with his glove. In his two games with the Rockies, he may have single-handedly been responsible for both wins. He is essentially a rental for this year, but I'd like to see management get him a two or three year contract. He has been a huge acquisition.

Headward. I am all things Denver/Colorado but the Nuggets which are teh suck and always have been and thus I am Lakers. I have the ultimate team pride in the Broncos, and oodles of it in the Avalanche and Rockies. For basketball I swung to the home/local team that was actually successful.

I am absolutely sickened by the pitching of this team. Put up 8 runs on Greinke's D-Backs and still lose. Our "ace" is clearly not an ace. I don't think he even went two innings. Down 6-0, the bats do what they always do and bring us back, only for the horrific fucking bullpen to give it up again. Disgusted. And now I have to root for these assholes to beat the shithole Dodgers.
