Hating Kobe meant being disappointed a lot. The best athletes absolutely crush the spirits of the people who don't like them. It was a much better sports experience having #8/#24 on your side.

Can't remember a sadder day in sports in my entire life.

For me, the only athlete I ever hated because he was great was Peyton in 2002-2005 because he killed us in ways the league never saw before.

Muhammad Ali was probably the saddest for me. He was kind of a hero growing up as an aspiring boxer/martial artist.

Darrent Williams crushed me as a Broncos fan. I loved that guy.

I totally get that. I only hated him because in a world that loved Jordan, I was a Barkely guy. Kobe, to me, was the next Jordan. He copied him. Which annoyed the fuck outta me. Even in interviews, he would take on Jordan's persona. But with the news that came out, I am truly sad, and I realize how wrong I was about him. But hey, that's why we love sports, no?

Derrick Thomas was a hard one for me. I mean..he was legit almost on Lawrence Taylor level. And I followed his whole career. I was a big fan.

Yeah. His death was so tragic too. Derrick and Von are so similar.

I remember watching the 60-point final game with the bros on the spare board. What a memory that will be, now. And I'll never forget watching the restaurant I was at as each group reacted to the news of Kobe's passing. Sickening day, but it really puts into perspective how meaningless everything is and how important your loved ones are. Hug everyone.

Like so many others, I loved to hate Kobe. He was the kind of player who thrived on the hate. It's nothing to feel guilty about. He loved it. Whether you loved him or hated him, you damn well knew he was there. He was that good. He made the game more fun.

And so now that the media gathered themselves, it looks like Kobe's daughter's friend was on board with both her parents. She has a brother and a sister, who are now without a sibling and both their parents. I can't even imagine. Just trying to imagine losing both parents and a sister is indescribable.

9 dead, and so many other lives ruined.

Just reminds me that Matt Barnes sucked ass.

Lovely tribute from Barack Obama to Kobe. So many lovely messages of support. Hopefully that gets to be the main story. Although TMZ apparently broke the story and hence the trends etc before the family had been properly notified. That’s pretty fucked up. Hard enough to lose someone but to hear about it in news flashes and the like if that’s what happened would be sickening.

"Kobe Bryant, despite being one of the truly great basketball players of all time, was just getting started in life. He loved his family so much, and had such strong passion for the future. The loss of his beautiful daughter, Gianna, makes this moment even more devastating. Melania and I send our warmest condolences to Vanessa and the wonderful Bryant family."
May God be with you all!
- Donald Trump

With a parent or both parents, too. Beautiful faces in those photos.

I'm done talking about this now.

They postponed the Clippers-Lakers Game.

I dint recall a reaction like this in sports in recent memory.

Christina Mauser was the wife of a lead singer of a very popular local band, so seemingly everybody I know is connected now.
