I don't blame you for doing what you had to do. I feel bad that so many people in "the greatest country in the world" have been in the same, or similiar, situation that you have, and instead of the system being blamed, individuals get the blame. It's not right.

The Soviet Union was terrible in so many ways, it was communism. That is very different from Socialism.
However, their innovations and impact on the early days of the Cold War can not be understated. Their biggest problem was government corruption. It's a damn shame the late reforms didn't take.

We could march to our representives' homes and demand that they stop increasing the military budget (which both Democrats and Republicans continually do). There are avenues for change - to think that it's entirely hopeless and that "it is what it is" is the attitude that got us this deep in to begin with.

If 45% of the population had refused to work until specific demands were meant, then maybe we could call it a strike, but that's not remotely what happened.
