What happens now when people don't have heroin? There's no difference at all. The same exact group of people will be affected.
Well what your saying ends up with the same outcome of it being legal or not. You want to get rid of a possession charge or something? If your house gets robbed by dope fiends your cool because it's legal? Come on man
It's the same outcome for the users. It's not the same outcome for the trade itself. Was there no difference between the Chicago Outfit supplying alcohol and legal corporations supplying alcohol?
Do people needing a drink whore themselves, kill, steal? It's completely different and you thinking this way unable to tell the difference between addictions impede progress

Do you think being a druggie is a destiny? Like there is no outside influence that creates them?

Why would I never try heroin, yet someone else does?
Your idealism is noble, but very naive. There is no means by which you can eliminate human desire to get high. There never has been and there never will be. Sorry. Moralizing about it is pointless.
Do you think one person is born with the desire to be a junkie and the other has no desire? Or do you think a big part of that behavior is learned?

You haven't answered my question about who was better served to run the trade, criminals or legal corporations.

That's fine, but at some point would you mind actually responding to the points I make? Would at least make this a discussion.

I could give a shit about an addict getting caught with their drug of choice if it only effected them but it doesn't.

I believe there's definitely a genetic component to addiction but for the most part it's learned behavior. That's not to say there's actually anything you can do to curb thousands of years of people liking the stuff.

That being on a mass scale. Obviously individuals can be influenced, but the factors that make drugs acceptable to certain people will just evolve.

Absolutely I love debating you. For someone I've never met I thoroughly enjoy it. I have real heartfelt sympathy for people suffering from addiction it's not stuff I see on tv it's my own loss of friends it's commonplace where I am we just disagree on a cure

Are drug problems being dealt with effectively now? There's evidence suggesting legalization does not increase the population of addicts, so what is the issue? All I'm trying to do is reduce the violence. The associations with other criminal enterprises like gun runners and human traffickers. Is that not worthwhile?

If I could figure this out I would but it's just my opinion that while certain drugs should be legalized some shouldn't

You don't think it would be a positive step for drug cartels who deal in violence and intimidation to be eliminated out of necessity?

Drug users to continue to do drugs, shift law enforcement resources into rehabilitation and treatment, the people who run the trade aren't criminals.

Prague is extremely lax in dealing with both drugs and prostitution. They're not technically legal, but they're accepted. Do you realize how much easier that makes policing a city?

No because they will always be more efficient. They will lose money at first but they will adapt. Fentanyl is proof

Why are we rehabbing and treating people? Just let them go.

That too is a better alternative than locking them up.
