There is coercion at play.
coerce the coerced, foo. oppress the oppressed.
Just like prostitution, you have to look beyond the moment it happens and into all the coercion and abuse that leads up to the act.
encourage them away from it. agreed.

So basically, look the other way while someone is raped or abused.

I am all for religious freedom. The hajib, is a weird thing for me. I have been meaning to ask my Muslim friend whose wife wears a hajib, the significance of it. To me, it does looks like oppression. I mean, shouldn't a Brad Pitt lookin' motherfucker wear one? Ya don't wanna temp the ladies.

BTW....my Muslim friend looks EXACTLY like Shaun White, the snowboarder dude. He is also Sebs neighbor. He lives in England. Lol

Nope, but saying it is ok to oppress them with it enables their abuse. Understand, only those who have been indoctrinated in a culture of oppression desire to wear a hijab as a signal they are accepting inferiority to men.

Hehe. Nah, he isn't one of those. He is traditional, but against extremism. But, I do feel weird about the hajib his wife wears. I know he would be very nice if I grow the balls to ask him. Ya just never know though. Smartest guy I have ever met has his wife wearing a hajib. This better be a good explanation.

if they don't desire to wear it, i will gladly let them make that choice. and i will encourage them to make the choice for themselves, to show them that they are no longer being oppressed into wearing it or into not wearing it.

By keeping the oppression of female muslims legal...

Slaves can be chained up if that is what they want...

The fact that he is accepting of his wife being oppressed and giving up her identity and individuality, while subjugating herself as a lesser being sounds pretty extreme to me.

Why do you guys think Muslim women are supposed to wear the hijab? The hijab is worn to signal modesty so they do not attract attention from men. In Islam, if a woman were to not be wearing a hijab and was raped, it would be her fault for tempting the male. It puts the onus entirely on the female for the self control of another. It is shameful and wrong.

By keeping it legal, you basically support this oppression because it creates a false choice. In their community, if legal, it is a requirement.

*grabs a weaker person's hand and repeatedly smacks their head with it, while shouting, "Why are you hitting yourself!".*

He didn't have to shackle himself. We could just send him back to Africa! *man is unable to work, has never been to Africa, and has limited freedom*

He made the choice!

i understand what it means. it is their choice to make in western culture. if you, personally, want to force a muslim woman you come across to not wear the hijab. give that a try. but it should not be made illegal.

Not disagreeing, but this guy is not your typical dummy. As I do agree with you, I respect him enough to listen to why this is a Muslim thing. I have been wanting to ask him for a long time. However, I am going to wait until I feel comfortable asking. I don't wanna do it out of the blue, as we don't discuss his religion all too much. Next time, I will take advantage and pop the question.

Yeah, I can talk to her and her husband can beat the shit out of her. At least the bruises will be covered, right?

Muslim women in hijabs have so many other opportunities. You see them in office jobs all the time. Doctors, lawyers, accountants, dentists, etc. They are not beholden at all to their oppressors...

You know, it is gonna be 92 degrees on Tuesday. Do I wanna wear shorts and flip flops or a black tent that covers me from head to toe. Tough choice! So many of us struggle with this choice. Glad we have choices!
