He was jokin the ribs quite joshingly.
Do you actually believe that?

I agree. He was trying to get a cheap pop. As stupid as I think the guy is, I don’t know why I’m the only one who thinks the intent was clear and strategic here.

And if that’s supposed to be a joke...what’s the joke? There’s no context in existence where that is funny.

we mostly agree about it. he made comments because he wanted a cheer from the crowd, so he spouted some shit he read or heard, probably from foxnews or some other conservative news pundit. their sentiment was racism. his sentiment was self aggrandizement. doesn't make it any better, but that's how i saw it.

It was xenophobic.

Jesus H. If you don't like foreigners, if you think the Oscars are a tired sham, you had some bad Korean on a date one time... there's plenty of context and people that roll with it.

I’m not policing humor. I’m saying it’s not even close to funny. I couldn’t care less about Trump’s takes on movies, it’s just blatantly obvious what he’s doing when he goes on a bit like this and it’s pretty fucked up.

I guess I don’t see the difference between having an authentic racist opinion and promoting someone else’s racist opinions.

there's not a big difference. it doesn't make it any better. so that's why i said we mostly agree on this.

Look, I love the arguments and goofy ass ribbing that we have in here- "ohhh, hahaha. You're a dumbass, you stupid"- "ohhhh nonono, u stupid. Hahaha YOUUUU are the ones who are the ball lickers! We're gonna fuck your mothers while you watch"- Bahbahbah, blahblahblah etc...
But...

Can you at least acknowledge that there is a difference between RACE and NATIONALITY? I've been trying to shoehorn this into discussions all the time. Like where you guys will do weird shit like accuse someone who gets mad at people for putting too much parmesan on their garlic bread as being racist against Italy. Like wtf man... I try to dumb shit down and riff in here but I can't even approach this shit with a sense of humor to riff about... Korea is not a race... Italy is not a race...

sure, there's a difference. he didn't lash out at the way you were born, in this one way. he did it in this other way. that's fair, i guess.

"Lash"
We've all had exact conversations like this on the board and not a soul ever got worked up about it until Trump ragged on the academy awards.
Just crazy to see some of you acting so different about every little thing Trump says.

again, i think trump was repeating things said by other people. the lash out was by those other people.
second, i don't actually think that many of us have dismissed a film or filmmaker just because they are foreign. in fact, most of us eat up a lot of foreign horror. so yeah.

0% chance he makes this comment about a British film winning. Zero. Please remember that you are allowed to think.

Do you perhaps want to quit making shit up? Nobody is making arguments even remotely like the bizarre example you just cited and not “everyone” here has had conversations about a movie being unworthy because it’s not in English.
If you want to make a stupid argument that gets dumber with every point you try to illustrate, that’s your prerogative. Just don’t drag the rest of us into the gutter in a totally dishonest way. That’s weak as fuck. This incredibly sorry defense of Trump’s bigotry is all you, bud. No fingers to point. We’re not part of it. It’s nice to see Reign call a spade a spade while you make excuses and throw everyone else under the bullshit bus.

Let Me In sparked that conversation. It was a long time ago, but I think the main reason for it was to just fuck with Seb. And my parmesan cheese example was only to show exactly how silly it is to say this is racism. This isn't anything remotely racial at all. And it boggles the mind to watch you change definitions of words to justify your bizarre hatred for a guy so you can lump him into that category. But nobody is going to bend on this, so the conversation is pointless. There is literally nothing racist or bigoted about what he said at all. Trump could say "I like fried chicken" and people would find a way to label it racist.
History is not going to look back favorably on the left's behavior in this era. In 40 years from now, this era of liberalism is going to be remembered worse than the lazy ass hippies in the 60s. And that is not a good thing.

I do remember that and everyone was just fucking with Seb the Swede. Most of us dug Let the Right One In. So that’s really a stretch. As for your Italian example, if you’re trying to make a convincing case, using an example that obviously never happened has the opposite effect. I welcome the citation of something actually said by people here, or an analogy that’s even close to being sensible.
If you are willing to use even a little bit of intuition and common sense, you’d realize he’d never say this if a British film won. What does that mean? It’s not purely nationalistic. And again you choose to use a nonsensical fake example that nobody would respond to in the way you’re portraying. Seriously just use one thing that’s actually real.
History is going to fucking bury MAGA. It tends to not be kind to movements built around xenophobia, outright lies and regressive ideology. It’s going to be a source of embarrassment for decades. Also love dumbing the 60s down to “lazy ass hippies” when the ideas fought for in that era are responsible for what we conceive now as modern society. Naturally you have no respect or maybe just no understanding of what African Americans, women, LGBT etc. accomplished. I mean jesus you have to REALLY have no clue what you’re talking about to outright dismiss the most dynamic era of social change of the century as “lazy ass hippies”, or to think that line of thought is the standard. It isn’t, and everyone should be appreciative of the changes forced by people in that era. The country is significantly better for it.
