All good thoughts, really deep, but bottom line is simple. Those who have more should do more. Yes, take care of yourself and your family first, but say, if I won the lottery, I'd have a nice simple, realistic house, never work again unless I get bored, which wouldn't take much to support myself, then help others. Do good, do the right thing. Who really needs all that money? To what end. Also, yes, entertainment is all well and good, but when you place it against human suffering, I kinda have a hard time justifying it. Sure, government is partially to blame, but then again, this is the same government that allows secret Cayman Island accounts to avoid paying taxes. Again, it's a little off putting. I guess I just expect more out of humanity.

A lottery winner instantly gives up 40% or more of their winnings to the common good. In terms of absolute cash, more than most of us ever will. By your logic, why bother having a lottery? You want to control how they use it even after they pay what society demands.
