What business would ever operate that way? Pure fantasy.
If he didn't apologize, they'd have to fire him or face the wrath of the betas.
Either he’d apologize or the world would forget anyway. He’d be working the next day. Businesses don’t needlessly spend millions of dollars because Twitter was mad for two seconds.

Did you forget Roseanne, the star of the hit TV show, Roseanne, was removed from her own show even after apologizing?

The only people I've ever known who are legitimately, completely untouchable are Matt and Trey from South Park.

people do need to stop being so quick to be offended. and other people need to stop making it into a bigger deal than it needs to be. either way, one feeds into the other.

Probably fair. I don’t know why we act like this stuff is new. People have always gotten themselves in trouble with things they say, and rarely lost their jobs because of it. Did cancel culture exist in 1988? See: Jimmy “The Greek” Snyder.

Tropic Thunder, for example, is a movie that would never be able to exist today. And that was only 10 years ago. It's far more prominent today than it ever has been.

I predicted a few years ago that it will die down in 2022, though. We'll see.

I mentioned Jimmy the Greek. How about Al Campanis? Michael Richards? Sinead O’Conner?

I guess “cancel culture” has always been around.

What I’m gathering from all this is that what’s changed is people’s sensibilities, which naturally evolve over time anyway. But people have always been held accountable for saying things that offend people, and for the most part they’re able to come back from it. Are we sure it’s not just the counter-reaction that has ramped up?

that's probably a good bet. someone gets the boot. and then people get upset and look to go after someone else, that is seen to be favored by the group that seemingly got the first person to be booted. and so on.
