it's also not the first time that i've tried to ease things back down, or try to be a mediator of sorts. it's not white knighting. it's just trying to keep things civil.Jason wrote:Zomb to the rescue!zombie wrote:upsetting someone because you're being an asshole to them counts as triggered now? i thought triggered was something inane and blown out of proportion, not a valid reaction.Jason wrote:Liberal triggered.
Yeah, it's not the first time banter has occurred in the politics board. Everyone is guilty of it. Doesn't mean you need to be Head's white knight because he got butthurt. I mean "black knight". I'm not racist!
Yeah, just actually ignore him.Headhunter wrote:Well, fuck. Turns out I can't put Jason on ignore because he's an admin. :x

Well obviously, but the ignore function is much more efficient. Was just asking.Reign in Blood wrote:Yeah, just actually ignore him.Headhunter wrote:Well, fuck. Turns out I can't put Jason on ignore because he's an admin. :x

Ease what back down? Seb's own forum description is "don't click this board if you can't take the heat". And when has being the mediator ever done any good in these threads? :pzombie wrote:it's also not the first time that i've tried to ease things back down, or try to be a mediator of sorts. it's not white knighting. it's just trying to keep things civil.Jason wrote:Zomb to the rescue!zombie wrote:upsetting someone because you're being an asshole to them counts as triggered now? i thought triggered was something inane and blown out of proportion, not a valid reaction.Jason wrote:Liberal triggered.

ease the tensions back down? i'm not mediating by trying to tell you what to say or not to say, but by trying to ensure that people aren't feeling attacked. it can be good for the thread and for the community as a whole.Jason wrote:Ease what back down? Your attempt to put me on the forum's ignore list says otherwise. It was clearly a big deal to you.Headhunter wrote:No worries Z. I don't feel attacked. He's just being annoying and thinks it's funny. I don't think it's funny. Not a big deal.
Do people really generalize or stereotype that much here? I feel like I have to bend over backwards every time I point out something from a lunatic fringe contingent to show that I'm not grouping tens of millions together. And I have no problem with that, it's touchy territory and you want to be careful.zombie wrote:i think it comes down to polarization and escalation, to the extreme. it's not something that only one side or the other, politically. i think that we should try to de-escalate. try to be more understanding or respectful of each other. try not to generalize or stereotype people by the worst of the group they identify with or whatever. at least, to the point that we have an influence. it could help a little bit.Tiggnutz wrote:I'm not saying it's anything to do with left, liberal or democrat or right, conservative or republican I'm saying that we have let political difference reach a level of excepted hysteria. are you saying that i'm making you feel like you have to start bending over backwards for that because of the post i just made, or that you feel that way in general, prior to my post above?Headhunter wrote:Do people really generalize or stereotype that much here? you can put people on a friends list or an enemies list. that's all it is. (i don't know what putting someone on a friends list does though. maybe send you notifications when they post or something)showa58taro wrote:I didn't know there was an ignore list. Nah, not you or anyone. Just kinda the way society operates. You don't want to offend people you like by not being careful.zombie wrote:are you saying that i'm making you feel like you have to start bending over backwards for that because of the post i just made, or that you feel that way in general, prior to my post above?Headhunter wrote:Do people really generalize or stereotype that much here? I usually do too, just exercising my right to find something annoying, not funny and not worth reading.showa58taro wrote:I didn't know there was an ignore list. I just read everything and laugh at the nonsense.
A real snowflake's dream, that ignore list.showa58taro wrote:I didn't know there was an ignore list. I just read everything and laugh at the nonsense.
okay. you should never have to feel like that, that you have to walk on eggshells in a discussion. and i think that becoming polarized, as a culture or society, is where that comes from. it's an us vs. them mentality to the extreme. and i do see some of it on hmf. like trying to make the argument recently that if you criticize a cop, you want cops to be robots or be shot first or whatever.Headhunter wrote:Nah, not you or anyone. People weaponize that "walking on eggshells" stuff too. Half the reactions you'll see are genuinely people being offended because they misinterpreted who you're being critical of, and the other half is people who know damn well you're making the appropriate distinctions but want to play dumb and feign outrage because it's easy to.zombie wrote:okay. you should never have to feel like that, that you have to walk on eggshells in a discussion. and i think that becoming polarized, as a culture or society, is where that comes from. it's an us vs. them mentality to the extreme. and i do see some of it on hmf. like trying to make the argument recently that if you criticize a cop, you want cops to be robots or be shot first or whatever.Headhunter wrote:Nah, not you or anyone.
