It probably is true but it was obviously an empty threat. They asked, he said no as he should have and they moved on and only benched him when the season was basically over. Pretty fair imo. Sounds like Russ trying to control the narrative on his way out so we are meant to think it was some ongoing issue and not a one-time ask.
