What does a man have to do with anything? I think she just happened to be someone who was cast in a world-beater slasher flick but her character didn't really do anything much different than your typical final girl.zombie wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 5:10 pmyeah, she did need a man's help in the end.Jason wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 5:09 pmJLC is a bit overrated imo.zombie wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 5:08 pmhey now.. don't try to harsh my woke slasher subgenre! laurue smoked pot. sally b and e'd! take that dignity and class!Jason wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 5:05 pm Additionally, seeing a vulnerable female adds to the suspense and terror of the movie. Re: August 14th 2024
you're judging her in retrospect? a lot of those "typical final girls" didn't exist in her time.Jason wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 5:19 pmWhat does a man have to do with anything? Re: August 14th 2024
and a man takes away from her final girl-ness in her film, not retrospectfully!

Re: August 14th 2024
Ah, good point.
I'm not really judging her. I just don't think she's the universal #1 that people always place her in. There are others I liked better and it's all subjective, really.

Re: August 14th 2024
yeah, i get that. she's not my favorite as a character (nancy thompson) or an actress within the genre (dee wallace)
Re: August 14th 2024
I don't really have a preference on how a final girl gets away, whether she's saved or does it all on her own. Olivia Hussey is arguably the best final girl to ever do it for sure, but she dies in the end. It really just depends on the progression of the movie rather than what she does in the end scenes.

Re: August 14th 2024
I couldn't even begin to pick a favorite. If I go the underrated route my mind automatically jumps to Chris in Friday 3.zombie wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 5:28 pmyeah, i get that. she's not my favorite as a character (nancy thompson) or an actress within the genre (dee wallace)

best final girl, really... bet you can't even name the character without googling!Jason wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 5:31 pmI don't really have a preference on how a final girl gets away, whether she's saved or does it all on her own. seriously, i think that how she goes throughout the film does have an affect on her final girl status. but not on the film itself. just my point of view though.

Exactly. The movie is not about her. That's why it works so well. You don't have to stand out to be the best.

As far as I know, there are two truths in that sentence.Reign in Blood wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 5:37 pmWho told you these odious lies?
1) Olivia Hussey as Jess arguably being the best.
2) That she dies in the end.

I've been talking him up for almost 15 years lol. Seeing him in concert back in 2010 was a pleasant surprise.
