That's not just a liberal thing. Majority of my family are conservative and we say Happy Holidays more often than Merry Christmas.

I have to say I have softened in my old age on the Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays stuff. Still should be no big deal, but I could see for non-religious and folks that just don't care for Xmas, it is kinda like having someone saying Happy Birthday to you for a month, or even at a bitchin party, and you're just like "it's not my fucking birthday, brah, and most of my birthdays sucked" crab apple. Whereas Happy Holidays is more openly jovial and like welcome to the party, pal, whatever party it is, type deal.

i never bought into the "war on christmas" thing. just a fuss over nothing.

but if i ever do meet jason, he'll be like "hey, you know it's me, right?" and all he'll ever get for greeting in return is a smile and a "happy holidays!"

I choose to use it because it's simplistic and being an atheist most certainly played a role in that long ago. Personally I have never liked Christmas, even as a kid. I feel it's turned into a big deal for nothing. I don't like majority of my relatives and don't want to be around them if I don't have too.

Leave it to the political atmosphere to turn an upbeat greeting during the holidays (Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays) into a war.
