Would agree that we all deserve the benefit of the doubt. A lot of us employ a fair amount hyperbole in our arguments anyway, it should be expected. The sniping and bickering isn't political in nature though.zombie wrote:i think that we all deserve the benefit of the doubt, in general conversation. sometimes it is worth clarifying a position if you feel like you aren't getting it across to the other person, or asking them to clarify when you feel like you're not getting their position,Headhunter wrote:

yeah, sniping and bickering really only serves to frustrate or annoy people.Headhunter wrote:Would agree that we all deserve the benefit of the doubt. People support Bernie Sanders because they want a free ride. Where I do see some similarities:Headhunter wrote:Trump and Sanders were really just two sides of the same "rural white America has been betrayed" coin.
Trump got a bigger share of the loonies, but Sanders had no shortage himself.
Bernie supporters think they are losers because a millionaire/billionaire/corporation is keeping money from them. Trump supporters think they are losers because welfare recipients or illegals are taking it.

treat the symptom only. don't look for a cause. don't think about why it might be happening as well.Foo wrote:Or we could not shoot people we disagree with.zombie wrote:i think it comes down to polarization and escalation, to the extreme. it's not something that only one side or the other, politically. i think that we should try to de-escalate. try to be more understanding or respectful of each other. try not to generalize or stereotype people by the worst of the group they identify with or whatever. at least, to the point that we have an influence. it could help a little bit.Tiggnutz wrote:I'm not saying it's anything to do with left, liberal or democrat or right, conservative or republican I'm saying that we have let political difference reach a level of excepted hysteria. Sure, both parties have extremes. Keep in mind Bernie could not win his primary precisely because he was too extreme for democrats. Bernie's entire platform was basically, " you are a loser because someone else is productive.showa58taro wrote:So both sides are deluded.

Yeah, seriously, fuck all that. The moment someone starts trying to kill people like that is the moment anything they think or feel is irrelevant. They proved themselves to be crazy.zombie wrote:treat the symptom only. don't look for a cause. don't think about why it might be happening as well.Foo wrote:Or we could not shoot people we disagree with.zombie wrote:i think it comes down to polarization and escalation, to the extreme. it's not something that only one side or the other, politically. i think that we should try to de-escalate. try to be more understanding or respectful of each other. try not to generalize or stereotype people by the worst of the group they identify with or whatever. at least, to the point that we have an influence. it could help a little bit.Tiggnutz wrote:I'm not saying it's anything to do with left, liberal or democrat or right, conservative or republican I'm saying that we have let political difference reach a level of excepted hysteria. I don't care about how sad terrorists are either.
Bottom line is this guy was shooting a gun at people because his life was bad and he couldn't take personal responsibility.
Re: Illinois Travel ban
ywah, you missed what i was saying. or what tigg and i were even talking about. fuck that guy, but also look at the big situation to maybe de-escalate things so it doesn't happen again. if you can prevent something, why not?Foo wrote:

Everyone has to remember that not everyone is sane enough to tell the difference between rhetoric or satire from reality. Some people take everything literally. Trump is guilty the media is guilty everyone is guilty. It's so accepted that it seems to be encouraged on college campuses. I knew when physical attacks and destruction of property were tolerated, accepted and treated as protest that it would escalate to something worse.

All this escalation/de-escalation shiz reminds me of the time Seb argued that was the primary theme of the Dark Knight.

I must admit I don't recall that being central to my enjoyment of the film, but it does sound like something I'd argue for.Reign in Blood wrote:All this escalation/de-escalation shiz reminds me of the time Seb argued that was the primary theme of the Dark Knight.

uh huh. it shouldn't be encouraged. it shouldn't be tolerated. in an environment as polarized as we have, politically, things are gonna boil over. and we should work to counter that. protest is a good thing. violence and destruction is fucked.Tiggnutz wrote:Everyone has to remember that not everyone is sane enough to tell the difference between rhetoric or satire from reality.
