They can't squeeze in everybody, unfortunately. Does suck though, I mean they had the guy that had like two appearances on Married with Children, but not Tobe.

Fuck yeah Del Toro!

Now I have the feeling Three Billboards will take best picture. Hopefully not, but that's usually the way these things work.

I still have hope for 3 Billboards, but since it lost screenplay, I don't think it's taking picture. Martin wasn't even nominated for director. So it's probably going to be Get Out or Shape of Water.

Create your own HMF oscars and nominate your own! Your opinion is at minimum as valid as the phony weirdos behind the voting desk.

I think I've only seen the Burning 3 times. The spacing is enough for me to kind of forget the details of the movie. Do love and remember that opening though. Poor Cropsy.

I love the silent killer approach in 80s horror. Mystery is the key to excellence.

mystery is more of a 70s horror thing, to be honest.

I feel like 1981 was kind of the barrier for that. A lot of serious horror in 1981. Started seeing more comedic approach in horror little-by-little after that.

Lots of genuine cuties in The Burning. Definitely doesn't hurt where the movie will rank.

Mystery, as in you don't know diddily poo about him.

There is still mystery in modern horror, too, though. 90s horror, 2000s horror. I just think the 80s completely aced it. Especially in the slasher aspect. There was always a kind of mystery behind Jason, Michael. Even though we saw them 11 times in the 80s.

okay. yeah, they don't really give him a backstory beyond the tragedy. there is that.

i'm not trying to be contrary. there was, of course, mystery in some 80s horror, as there is still some today. but i don't think that is really what defined the genre in the 80s. if that makes sense. mystery and suspense seemed to be the defining factor in 70s horror, at least to me.

A monster movie won Best Picture. And it was a great movie too.
