True story.
I went to the strip club and was groped by the stripper without consent.
Should I sue?

Wait 30 years and see if anyone around or involved becomes successful, then extort for millions.

someone is raped or abused and is scared to come forward.
should i make light of it and/or question the credibility of victims, in general?

foo and i are mostly discussing the credibility of a victim, based on how the attack affected them. vs. how he thinks that attack should have effected them. and the odd comment here and there by jason and seb.

I recounted a time where I was sexually assaulted and a time where I sexually assaulted someone else.

I was molested when I was 6 years old. I told you guys about this a few years ago. You guys are the only people I've ever told. Dude was a pastor. Very well respected guy. Did it not happen because I was too ashamed to tell anyone? Including family.
The guy was eventually killed by a kid he was molesting. It was kept all hush hush.

Statistically speaking, the level of unreported rapes and sexual assaults massively dwarfs the false accusations. Massively.

I've seen this meme going around comparing this case to boys molested by catholic priests while the girl is always questioned but no one questions the boys, and the difference between them, really, is one has a ton of proof that the church has been doing that, beyond the point of the amount of Cosby accusers, while there isn't anything, not even the girls' memory, of anything happening with this one Kavanaugh guy. Not saying it didn't happen, but it should not be wrong to question if it did happen when there's nothing to back it up.

The FT ran an article about how the #MeToo movement has one very odd consequence which is turning American legal theory on its head. This echoes the same.

If they're unreported/untold, where are you getting the numbers?

It's basically a murky gray area of unproven/here-say. They could be true, they may not be, and the numbers are only estimated due to being "unreported" and "untold" in an official manner. It's padding. False accusations are still dwarfed without it, but it's a way to minimize proven false accusations.

Unreported =/= untold. Report suggests to authorities. It’s not an exact science, but there is a lot of research on the subject.

US legal theory has always rested (not always perfectly, see black incarceration rates) on the idea of a person being innocent until proven guilty and that the onus is on the accuser tomprove the crime. A lot of the MeToo movement has seen firings and dismissals and all sorts long before it goes to court or any system of judgement. It’s the rare occasion where an accusation is an assumption of guilt. And that is weird.

I'm sorry, this is bad parenting. A dude holds you down, wants to take off your clothes and touch your naughty bits, whatever, you call that shit out when it happened immediately. You don't wait 30+ fucking years with a faulty mind and shaky accusations to do so. Done. Next issue.

yeah it is weird. this is not the first time that it's happened in the united states though.
and rape/assault can be a lot more tricky to prove than most other crimes. also, more likelihood of the community or family pressuring the victim not to come forward in some way or another.
