it would help those people.

Those rules force over-hiring. So instead of a person ever having a secure job with 40 regular hours per week, 2 people are hired, and each given 20 hours per week. Similar happens when benefits are made mandatory.

If a job is worth $20 an hour and an employe volunteers to pick up extra hours, you are telling me the government needs to step in? It is garbage.

That logic doesn't even hold up.

Ok, well then anyone who owns a business is not logical. Let's say you work retail. You have 3 people who provide 120 man hours of labor per week. Your business suddenly has a need for 125 man hours per week. You practically force the business to hire another person and take hours from them all, even if one of the current staff could have really used the five additional hours at their regular rate.

What are minimum contracting hours in the US? And also, why would you not expect admin and HR costs plus base taxes to not overshadow the slight increase in overtime? More to the point, surely either way you have to pay more than you do currently. That is the point.

Never heard of minimum contracting hours.

No, the admin costs tend to also get offset because the new person being brought in is likely to be at starting pay.

The other alternative is to simply not grow the business when government looms over it. At some point, you just don't need the bullshit.

Rather than pay people fairly. Sounds like nonsense.

Lots of people are forced into overtime. In the food industry, Foo is correct. They just hire more people and have them work less hours. A factory.....not so much.

Anchor Hocking Glass (in my shitty town) does it all the time (forced overtime). And most of the time, it is offered at the end of your shift. And if you already planned little Jimmy's birthday party, tough shit. If you don't stay, you are fired or reduction in hours. They get away with a lot of shit.

Maybe. To me it's a simple workers rights issue and peopleworking extra hours should be paid extra. That's all I'm saying makes sense could there be some incidents of the employer actingascubts and losing good staff to preserve the bottom line? Sure. But they were already cunts. This at least forces them to be fair to workers.

Oh, I agree with you. These dolts want America to be great again when we had child labor and no overtime laws.

Workers have rights, it becomes counter-productive when liberals try to make laws that sound good when they cannot even fathom the unintended consequences (which is most of the time).

Underemployment is just as big of an issue as unemployment, which these type of laws only add to.

Unfortunately, your average liberal spends their life basically looking for everyone to give them something. They rarely even consider the flip side. They support business killing laws, point out the few that survived as proof of success, and then say the others just weren't good businesses.

So businesses don't take advantage of their workers? Like, ever? There is a reason why those laws were enacted. What's the solution?

I don't think its a bad idea just to have it as a contract between the employer and the employee. I could see big corporations taking advantage though.

Of course that happens, just as employees take advantage of the businesses they work for. Texting, interneting, fantasy football, non-work phone calls. showing up late, and general lack of productivity plague businesses.

Laws were enacted because everyone likes to play the victim. If you feel your employer is taking advantage of you, quit. If you have so little value that you are just an interchangeable part that the employer doesn't mind losing, look in the mirror.

Haven't you heard? Unemployment and underemployment are gone under trump. He said so on twitter.
