Gonna do these once a week, trying to pick songs from the past that are much lesser known but deserved the air play. Maybe songs I dig or maybe even recently discovered and hopefully introduce my fellow music lovers to some great tunes.
Unknown Specials For Your Pleasure
hosted by, JasonThis week's special: (11-12-2018 -11-18-2018)
title: Growing Up The Hard Way
artist: Foreigner
album: Agent Provocateur (1984)
Lyrics
He's got nothing to say, he's got no excuse
He's just made that way, and he's gonna stay that way
Like a dog on the loose in a firework display in a world of his own
No, no, no, he won't back down or go running back home
He's come a long way in life
He's got a long way to go
He don't even know, he don't care because
He's growing up the hard way
In and out of trouble every day
Growing up the hard way
Now no tellin' where you'll end up, boy
And he's got nothing to say, like he's lost for the worlds, his mind is in a daze
That's his way, it's just a little game he plays
He's got nowhere to run while the city sleeps he wanders alone
Cuttin' through the steel and the hearts of stone
He's come a long way in life
He's got a long way to go
He don't even know, but he don't care because
He's growing up the hard way
In and out of trouble every day
Growing up the hard way
You'd better walk the straight and narrow
Growing up the hard way
In and out of trouble every day
Growing up the hard way
Never know what you're in for, boy
He's come a long way in life
He's got a long way to go
He don't wanna know, and he don't care because
He's growing up the hard way
In and out of trouble every day
He's growing up the hard way
Yeah, and he's gonna stay that way
You see, he's growing up the hard way
Walk the straight and narrow yeah, maybe someday
But still he's growing up the hard way
It's just the way he's grown up
Yeah, growing up the hard way
There ain't no other way
Growing up the hard way

This week's special:(11-19-2018 - 11-25-2018)
title: Mercedes Benz
artist: Janis Joplin
album: Pearl (1970)
Lyrics
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a color TV?
Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me.
I wait for delivery each day until three,
So oh Lord, won't you buy me a color TV?
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town?
I'm counting on you, Lord, please don't let me down.
Prove that you love me and buy the next round,
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town?
Everybody!
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends,
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?
That's it!

"Mercedes Benz" was the last song Janis ever recorded. Just three days before her death.
The song itself is pretty hilarious. But I love that it is nothing but her voice and a little bit of rhythmic tapping in the background. She had a hell of a voice.
From that same album, Aerosmith's version of The Shangri-Las' "Remember (Walking In The Sand)" is also quite good.

I agree. Amazing song, and great cover. I think that whole album is underrated. Very dirty and bluesy.

This week's special:(11-26-2018 - 12-02-2018)
title: Alone & Forsaken
artist: Hank Williams
album: B-Side Single
Lyrics
We met in the springtime when blossoms unfold
The pastures were green and the meadows were gold
Our love was in flower as summer grew on
Her love like the leaves now has withered and gone.
The roses have faded, there`s frost at my door
The birds in the morning don`t sing anymore
The grass in the valley is starting to die
And out in the darkness the whippoorwills cry.
Alone and forsaken by fate and by man
Oh, Lord, if You hear me please hold to my hand
Oh, please understand.
Oh, where has she gone to, oh, where can she be
She may have forsaken some other like me
She promised to honor, to love and obey
Each vow was a plaything that she threw away.
The darkness is falling, the sky has turned gray
A hound in the distance is starting to "Bay"
I wonder, I wonder, what she`s thinking of
Forsaken, forgotten, without any love.
Alone and forsaken by fate and by man
Oh, Lord, if You hear me please hold to my hand
Oh, please understand.

Shit. I must've forgotten to hit "submit". I responded to this. I need to listen to them again. I'll have a full report later tonight.

After you posted "Alone and Forsaken" some months, maybe years, ago, it was almost automatically added to my iTunes. Rather enjoy that one and it's utterly dismal style.

It's my favorite "break up song". Maybe the darkest atmosphere I've ever heard in music. And Hank uses all four seasons to describe the birth and death of the relationship.
"Our love was in flower as Summer grew on"
"Her love, like the leaves, now has withered and gone"
...
"The roses have faded, there's frost at my door"
"The birds in the morning don't sing, anymore"

This week's special:(12-07-2018 - 12-13-2018)
title: Come And Gone
artist: Q5
album: Steel The Light (1984)
Lyrics
Our love has come and gone
I've been loving you too long
I feel so lonely in your arms
And our love is almost gone
I've grown tired of your kiss
And our loving I won't miss
Our love has come and gone
I've been loving you too long
Our love has come and gone
Been loving you too long
I felt so close to you
You felt so close to me
I'll never lose those memories
Of how we loved so tenderly
Now our love has gone away
And there's nothing left to say
Our love has come and gone
I've been loving you too long
Our love has come and gone
Been loving you too long
You're always on the run
Won't be here when you come
I've waited oh so long
But our love has come and gone
Our love has come and gone
I've been loving you too long
Our love has come and gone
Been loving you too long

Pretty sure less than 1,000 people on the planet have heard of the 80's rock/metal band "Q5". They only released two albums in the 80s and the song Come And Gone was on their first album. There are several songs on this album I considered picking for this week's special, but I went with Come And Gone because it is a classic 80's rock ballad that is on par with the best rock ballads of all time. The sound is great, the solo in the middle is top notch and the singer has an incredible voice, especially near the end of the song.
Give 'er a listen. Tell me what you think.

title: You're Only Lonely
artist: J.D. Souther
album: You're Only Lonely (1979)
Lyrics
When the world is ready to fall on your little shoulders
And, when you're feeling lonely and small,
You need somebody there to hold you;
You can call out my name
When you're only lonely;
Now, don't you ever be ashamed;
You're only lonely.
When you need somebody around on the nights that try you
I was there when you were a queen
And I'll be the last one there beside you;
So you can call out my name
When you're only lonely;
Now, don't you ever be ashamed;
You're only lonely. (You're only lonely)
(You're only lonely) (You're only lonely)
Ooh, When the world is ready to fall on your little shoulders
And, when you're feeling lonely and small,
You need somebody there to hold you;
So don't you ever be ashamed
When you're only lonely;
You can call out my name
When you're only lonely; (You're only lonely)
When you're only lonely; (You're only lonely)
Ooh, it's no crime,
Darlin', we got lots of time,
Woh, woh, (You're only lonely)
Woh, woh, woh, (You're only lonely)
No there's nothing wrong with you,
Darlin, I get lonely too.
(You're only lonely)(You're only lonely)
So, if you need me, (You're only lonely)
All you've gotta do is call me
Well, you're only lonely
(You're only lonely)(You're only lonely)
Ooh, ooh, (You're only lonely)

Not sure if I'm retarded or if the site is acting weird. Probably both, but I fixed it.
