In the From Beyond special feature Barbara Crampton said Gordon wanted to unite Jeffrey Combs and her in this movie after Re-animator but they ended up doing From Beyond instead

so, he was gonna do dagon back in the 80s? i would have loved to see what he did with it, in that era of his career.

could be, he wanted to do something too ambitious with it, maybe. we'll never know the reasons i guess.

i could definitely see combs and crampton in the roles. this guy is playing a little bit too understated, at least at this point. in my opinion.

yeah he seems a little bit weak as an actor, to me. the rest of the movie is more than making up for it though.
