I didn't necessarily grow up on Stand By Me. I saw it a few times as a kid. It's one of those movies that is so gripping, you don't need to watch it very often at all. When they discovered the body, it always disturbed me a little bit. Regardless, I always really liked the movie, but for reasons completely different than the reasons I do now as an adult. It's not only a movie I think people should watch if they haven't already, but it's a movie that can be of great importance in your life. Every time I see it, I appreciate it even more. As big of a horror fan as I am, as big a fan as I am of so many iconic horror movies based on Stephen King's work, none will likely ever top Stand By Me. I've seen thousands of movies in my life, and if I made a cut of my ten favorite movies, Stand By Me would likely make that list. It is that good. I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

This movie captured nostalgia like no movie ever has or probably ever will. "Masterpiece" is a powerful word that gets thrown around far too often than it should. But Stand By Me is truly an all-time great masterpiece of a movie. I watched it again last night and decided I'd give it its thread.

A perfect movie. My brother and I rented this when I was 12 and it was so good we hit rewind and watched it a second time. It would make my top 20, if not my top 10.

i didn't see stand by me, as a kid, so i don't hold it to the same level that jason does. like not top 10, but still definitely a great movie.

Loved it in 86 and love it in 2017. Classic

It's in my top 100, definitely. Great film. Though lately I feel like it's too short

When I was 12 years old I had the Goonies and when I was 13 I had Stand By Me. What a great time for two of the best youth adventure movies of all time. The basis for me and my friends many exploits. Walked 6 hours to a distant mall arcade without anyone the wiser.

Watched it three nights ago. Debating watching it again, tonight. It just hit all the right strings at the right time, I guess. Not only did I kind of "forget" how great this movie was, but I appreciate it more now than I ever have. I am almost 100% certain it would make the cut for my top ten movies ever made. And that is saying a lot. I am a massive movie fan and have seen thousands of movies. It's one of those rare, life-changing stories. And it only gets better as you get older. There is no better nostalgia movie. Not even close.

Just because you didn't have friends as a kid doesn't mean you have to take it out on the movie!

I hear ya. They are certainly more in line with the "fun" category.

Stand By Me has aged as well as any movie I've ever seen. In addition to relating to the kids, I've grown to relate to the narrator as an adult, too. I've never enjoyed this movie as much as I do now. When was the last time you watched it?

watched it just now, because of this thread. really good but i like other kid-centric movies better, personally.
