Surprised by the lack of any horror to see in theaters this October.

the enemy is mostly only reacting to shifts in the market and public pressures. want something to remain, show it in the market and/or pressure the enemy to release it the way you want it to be. records survived. become a hipster! it sure beats being a nihilist!Jason wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 1:05 pm Don't be surprised when theaters close down and they go extinct like Blockbuster. Because it will happen, and very soon. Best Buy has also announced that they're getting rid of all physical media by 2024. Why get off your fat lazy ass and rent a movie or go to a theater when the streaming services you're paying for have it? This is pretty much the consequence of convenience. Everyone chose convenience and now convenience is taking over. You're at the mercy of what they want to show you, when they want to show it to you. They're editing movies too and taking out "offensive content", so now there's no guarantee the classics you love will ever be the same. Owning your own movies and watching anything you want has rapidly become a thing of the past. Streaming has basically become the death of fun in the movie world and everyone ate it up.
Glad I held firm all these years. I realized they were the enemy 15 years ago. Those fuckers never have and never will get a dime out of me.
I am a one man army, unfortunately. The companies are all in lockstep unison with the powers that be to censor or cancel certain movies. Nobody cares what the public wants. Streaming is already a lost cause. To think any of those streaming services will fight to preserve the original films is a pipe dream.zombie wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 5:37 pmthe enemy is mostly only reacting to shifts in the market and public pressures. want something to remain, show it in the market and/or pressure the enemy to release it the way you want it to be. records survived. become a hipster! it sure beats being a nihilist!Jason wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 1:05 pm Don't be surprised when theaters close down and they go extinct like Blockbuster. Taylor also needs to get the hell away from football, imo.
It's not like they have specific movies they want canceled right now. It's whatever movies the powers that be choose to cancel or censor. They've already done it to The French Connection. Streaming services themselves aren't the ones making the decisions. Smaller entities behind the scenes who control the streaming services are the ones making the decisions. If one or two streaming services deviate from the path and push back, they won't get any more favorable treatment. They're all controlled.zombie wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 7:34 pmJason wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 6:24 pm

what movies are they in lockstep to cancel or censor? it feels more like there is pressure to censor or "cancel" some movies. television shows, or performers. and it's not lockstep either. the streaming services will react to the market. and at this point, all of the content you seem to be interested in preserving is curated at least as far as netflix and amazon goes. which is what i assume you mean when you say streaming service. most of the other big ones are studio based and will also react to the market and to pressure. you have power, jason! use it!
if you wanna be a nihilist, blockbuster also only had certain films and tv available. theaters as well... it's only been about forty five to fifty years when we had actual "power" as far as watching what we wanted to some extent...with home video, but if you've ever watched something on tv or cable that you didn't have an actual physical copy of (bought, borrowed, or rented) then you're also part of the problem... again, if you wanna be a nihilist, but let's do something different.
in the case of the french connection, it's reportedly the director himself that decided on the changes. that is someone behind the scenes, beyond the streaming services.. so i guess you're right in a way. all the streaming services care about is money and avoiding lawsuits or public outrage. they aren't the ones being mommy and daddy. generally that's the church, government, the "moral, well meaning" masses, or some combination of the three.Jason wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 8:07 pmIt's not like they have specific movies they want canceled right now. Blockbuster wasn't set out to eliminate all forms of watching movies like streaming is, so the comparison of watching bought or borrowed movies doesn't fit exactly. This would be like in the 80s and 90s if Hollywood Video and Blockbuster got together and set out to stop movies from being distributed on TV, rented anywhere else, or purchased to own for yourself. That wasn't the case, but this is the case for streaming. Once physical media is eliminated completely, the prices for streaming will skyrocket and they will skyrocket in unison (Netflix, Hulu, etc...) because of the oligopoly. They're all in bed together. They swap the rights to movies and shows all the time to keep the rotation at a balance.
I would be more upset if we lived in an era where films were generally good, but they mostly suck so I'm pretty much fine with not being able to buy newer movies. The only one I miss right now that I can't own is The Barbarian. Eat wieners, Disney. Guess I'll buy a bootleg. You can't really cancel those. :p
I'd love to believe I'm just blackpilled. Hopefully that's the case, but things technically seemed to change for the worse in certain areas. I'm not a fan of streaming in general. Even if it is the case that they're simply competing in the market against each other and there isn't some agenda behind the scenes, going out to the theater or the rental stores to see movies is becoming a thing of the past as society becomes more reclusive and engulfed in social media. Tik tok is killing everyone's attention span. Forget about being able to sit through a movie anymore without pulling out phones.zombie wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 8:26 pmin the case of the french connection, it's reportedly the director himself that decided on the changes. that is someone behind the scenes, beyond the streaming services.. so i guess you're right in a way. all the streaming services care about is money and avoiding lawsuits or public outrage. they aren't the ones being mommy and daddy. generally that's the church, government, the "moral, well meaning" masses, or some combination of the three.Jason wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 8:07 pmIt's not like they have specific movies they want canceled right now. great movies still come out. but fair enough. the home video has only been a thing for about fifty years or so. so it's more like return to tradition, i guess. content you had no control over. that you either watched on tv or at a big movie house. at "their" discretion and selection. laserdisc, vhs, and dvd was just a short lived anomaly. now things are going back to the way they were meant to be.
enh.. black pilled is just a dumb social media term that doesn't really mean anything. or means something different to everyone who uses it. but i get your point. that's culture. culture's change and grow and regress and shift. such is life. just don't grow so old that everything sucks now.Jason wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 9:13 pmI'd love to believe I'm just blackpilled. i've never heard the term white pilled... so maybe you are hip with the times. at least more than me. isn't it just red pilled blue pilled and black pilled?
Black pilled can be defined as media only giving you the negative stories. So your overall outlook on life is negative. White pill basically just means the opposite. Seeing the good instead.
I saw it in theaters. Liked it quite well. Realized a few months ago I never picked it up on blu ray and wondered why I never saw it anywhere. Did a little digging and now I hate Disney. :p
they also just released a 100 movie blu-ray set, after public outcry. studios will go where the market and public pressure pushes them. you have the power, jason!
