Political Poll
Alright,
This will be the only political thread I ever create but my curiosity is getting the best of me here lol.
Given the heavy political discussions recently and in the past I am curious to see who aligns with which party (if any).
I respect everyone's stance even if I don't agree with it.
I myself am unaffiliated. I have voted for candidates in both major parties as well as independents and third party candidates over the years. Personally I hate the two party system and feel it's not helping our nation.

Re: Political Poll
Hard to say for me, personally. I am a registered republican and have either not voted or only voted republican, but I definitely consider myself to be a right leaning Libertarian above all else.
Re: Political Poll
i'm some kind of left, but i don't know what label fits me. i'm unaffiliated as a voter. and most often i've been called liberal around here, so maybe that's right?
Re: Political Poll
I registered Republican because I find their primary elections more important to vote in but I've voted Democrat several times.

Re: Political Poll
I would never willingly associate myself with the Democratic Party (or any party) but I’m definitely left leaning at this point in my life.

Re: Political Poll
None of the above. I vote for whoever is less of a piece of shit. By american standards, I'm a leftist, by world standards, I'm a centrist.

Interesting. I remember you being pro GOP back in the day.Headhunter wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 2:00 pm I would never willingly associate myself with the Democratic Party (or any party) but I’m definitely left leaning at this point in my life.
I hate the GOP and how insane they have become in recent years. I don't care for the Dems much either, especially the Sanders/AOC wing of the party.

I took a political quiz online a few months ago and it said I am Ambivalent Right. Whatever the fuck that means.Slaughterhouserock wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 2:07 pm None of the above. Re: Political Poll
I was briefly a member of the Socialist Party USA (SPUSA). I am currently a member of the Indiana Green Party (so technically a member of the national Green Party, by extension), but I am willing to vote for any leftist candidate, regardless of party (SEP, SPUSA, PSL, Socialist Action, FSP, WWP, etc.).
For example, I'm supporting Claudia De la Cruz (the nominee of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, or PSL) for president. I may be a Green Party member, but I'm certainly not required to always support their candidates.
By the way, happy you figured out the poll issue.

Re: Political Poll
So to actually answer the poll question, I went "independent/other," to be clear.

More libertarian but I have supported GOP candidates in the past. Can’t see it ever happening again after the last decade.Lazerus wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 2:09 pmInteresting. As a Socialist I am curious as to where you stand on business ownership?Jigsaw wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 2:22 pm I was briefly a member of the Socialist Party USA (SPUSA). From my understanding of socialism in general, the biggest grip is against the big mega corporations (conglomerates) and less with mid-sized and small businesses.

Re: Political Poll
The inclusion of Trump correlated with my total realization that both parties are just about equally corrupt, which ironically has led me to vote Republican to get Trump in office.
Re: Political Poll
As have I but this MAGA shit and their extreme Christian nationalist views have really turned me away from the entire party at this point. It's just become insanity imo.Headhunter wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 2:46 pmMore libertarian but I have supported GOP candidates in the past. Re: Political Poll
I don't personally have a problem with small business-owners (as long as they provide a living wage and healthcare for their employees). If someone wants to make a carpet-cleaning business, as long as there's not a monopoly in the area, I have literally no problem with it.Lazerus wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 2:56 pmAs a Socialist I am curious as to where you stand on business ownership?Jigsaw wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 2:22 pm I was briefly a member of the Socialist Party USA (SPUSA). It's more the major industires - electric, internet, gas/oil, etc. - that I think should be completely nationalized. No one should freeze to death in winter because they can't pay a heating bill - that is complete insanity to me, and we shouldn't allow it.
Small businesses, though, depending on the business, of course, don't really bother me. Foo has (had?) a food truck company, and I completely supported that.

Re: Political Poll
I also wanted to add this important note:
I do not think healthcare should be tied into employment, but in this country, it largely is, which is why I mentioned requiring healthcare to employees in regards to small business-owners.

Re: Political Poll
The big issue is the cost of medication being ridiculously high. If the people that control big pharma started controlling, let's say, fast food. A Big Mac would cost 87,000 dollars. The elites running the show need to be eradicated from all forms of power.
Re: Political Poll
The problem with providing healthcare benefits (for a small business) is the affordability. It's insanely expensive to provide those benefits especially in times like now with high inflation. Now that may sound like an excuse but it's true. Keep in mind small business do not have the level of access to capital that the publicly traded companies do. It took my business a few years to get to the point where we could provide this for our employees. On a personal note I feel healthcare is a right and we should have a universal healthcare system by now. Healthcare should not be a for profit industry.Jigsaw wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 3:00 pmI don't personally have a problem with small business-owners (as long as they provide a living wage and healthcare for their employees). I agree with you about the energy industry. Oil is a thing of the past and should be abolished in favor of electric vehicles and eventually better and safer energy options. A good argument could be made for the internet since it's pretty much a must have these days, same with phones.
