TikTok Ban

I have never used TikTok but I find the app annoying. I support the ban simply because I don't trust the government that owns it. Perhaps some of you will think that's ignorant of me but it's just how I feel. I understand that a lot of young people and influencers use the app to make money, so I get their frustration with this situation and Recently President Elect Trump suddenly shifted to supporting not banning the app, I find that strange. Regardless it looks like the ban might happen anyway.

What are your thoughts?

I still don't understand it. China owns it, and thus they can see the stupid dance videos or whatever stupid people post on there. They then take that information, that the stupid American person freely provides, and pushes ads or other bits of information to influence them (like every other marketing team?). And so we are banning TikTok to stop stupid American people from listening to stupid Chinese people? Or something.

i believe both have called tiktok a national security threat. and at least one of them is deep into trump's pockets.

It's a social media app, so it is competition for twitter and facebook, hence Musk and Zuck being for the ban. It's a dumb app that replaced vines from earlier. There's no real reason to ban it other than "china bad".

I've never used it - I'm so technologically behind, I still use a flip-phone - but I've never once heard of a valid reason to ban it, and I trust the Chinese goverment far more than the USA government.

I think it’s kind of great that Americans are starting to use other Chinese social media platforms in response and connect with the Chinese. The US government does not want us to find solidarity with their people but they are just people.

That's what I don't get, is it all nefarious shit they are selling on the Tok or what? I've been "swindled" tons by Facebook via Jason. Jason would show me a shirt or some shit on there that combines horror and the Broncos, bada bam I said fuck it take my money. I don't feel taken advantage of, yeah they preyed on my emotions, but what the fuck.

TikTok is just a clone of Douyin, the original Chinese app from the same company.
