Totally 80's Tuesday
In the last 25 years we've had DOZENS major stressors here in the U.S. alone.
i think there has always been turmoil and political or social unrest. every other time the topic has come up around here, it's been largely inregard to entertainment or media, so that's where my focus tends to go. i disagree on that front.Lazerus wrote: ↑Tue May 13, 2025 11:15 amIn the last 25 years we've had DOZENS major stressors here in the U.S. alone.
9/11 and other domestic terrorist attacks which resulted in a rise of Islamophobia and other issues.
Wars- Afghanistan, Iraq, and the War on Terror. Then our involvement in other wars such as Syria, Ukraine, Israel etc.
Economic wise we've had the Great Recession, Dotcom bubble, 2020 stock market crash, Covid Recession, runaway inflation, housing crash etc.
A rise in social tensions which includes but not limited too; several riots (mostly race related), a rise in social movements (BLM, MAGA, MeToo etc.)
Growing divide between the rich and well... everyone else.
A rise in extremist in politics from both sides of the isle.
Major natural disasters such as Katrina, the California wild fires, droughts, more frequent Hurricanes in the Gulf region.
Rising gun violence across the country with dozens of Mass shootings in this time frame.
I could list more but there's no need.
So what is it exactly that you disagree with here?
Of course, every decade has its share of issues but it is hard to deny that the last 25 years haven't been worse than the 70s, 80s,or 90's.zombie wrote: ↑Tue May 13, 2025 11:23 ami think there has always been turmoil and political or social unrest. every other time the topic has come up around here, it's been largely inregard to entertainment or media, so that's where my focus tends to go. i disagree on that front.Lazerus wrote: ↑Tue May 13, 2025 11:15 amIn the last 25 years we've had DOZENS major stressors here in the U.S. alone.

i think we're more aware of that shit now, than we were in the 80 and 90s. most of us had never actually seen the 70s, except in hindsight.Lazerus wrote: ↑Tue May 13, 2025 11:32 amOf course, every decade has its share of issues but it is hard to deny that the last 25 years haven't been worse than the 70s, 80s,or 90's.zombie wrote: ↑Tue May 13, 2025 11:23 ami think there has always been turmoil and political or social unrest. every other time the topic has come up around here, it's been largely inregard to entertainment or media, so that's where my focus tends to go. i disagree on that front.Lazerus wrote: ↑Tue May 13, 2025 11:15 amIn the last 25 years we've had DOZENS major stressors here in the U.S. alone.

As for entertainment I wasn't speaking to that. So we were obviously focusing on different things.![]()
As mentioned, I never watched the full show and maybe caught some episodes as a kid, so I'm mostly unfamiliar with it, but knowing Woody Harrelson and Kirstie Alley are gonna come in tells me the dynamic is gonna be quite a bit different.
