I'm getting a 4-day weekend too.

My cement mixer tipped over with me inside. So they're giving me three days (not including Sunday which I have off anyway) to get my bearings straight or whatever. I'm totally fine though. I could've hopped in another cement mixer truck and still went about the daily routine. I was backing up to a trench to fill it with cement up in Big Bear. They're building a zoo out there. For every foot deep the trench is, your truck needs to be a foot away. This trench was 3 feet deep and I was over 5 feet away. The job site is at fault because the inspector cleared it even though the dirt was unsafe. Shouldn't be an issue for my job security, but I'm not holding my breath. :p

The woman reporting the incident walked up to me and asked what happened, I gave her a quick account and she reported it exactly the way I said it. Ground just caved in, pretty much. She's already better than CNN! She was really nice and seemed pretty scared to approach, kept apologizing for prying. I am kind of afraid for the peeps that they're gonna hold responsible for it. Hope nobody loses their job. Superintendent told me he was gonna chew those dudes out because he specifically told them that he suspected the ground underneath was unstable and to do it from the street and block off a lane to be safe. But even though I'm 100% cleared I still feel like crap that the truck tipped over. My company was just shooting the shit about it the whole time too, cracking jokes, and telling stories of the time they tipped their trucks over. Definitely helped ease the guilt. This shit does happen a bunch to a lot of drivers, unfortunately.

Meh. Sometimes these holidays get in the way. If I did have it off, we'd fall one day behind on a rather large job we have right now, and it's on a tight schedule already. If we were slow, yeah I'd rather have it off
