I wonder if the UFO thing is uniquely American or not. Just seems so fucking weird.

Not at all. Pretty global actually; right down to different countries with versions of their own Roswell. I think it's more in the way of how the subject is tolerated or even broached to begin with, and definitely in the way and frequency it's disseminated.

It just feels like it features a lot for you guys. 20 years in japan, never once heard it be a topic of actual discussion. 15 years in the UK now, again never hear it be any kind of sincere discussion or see any believers etc. but there, it seems so pervasive in many places including something as mainstream as Senators and defense departments.Bix wrote:Not at all. i don't know how much of your experience is indicative of the cultures as a whole. i never thought about that as just an american thing. kind of curious what makes us different in that way.
but don't you have some sort of equivalent to extraterrestrials in the uk or in japan or sweden or wherever? be it, ghosts or whatever. do you not have some kind of mystery encounter type of thing on any kind of widespread level?

Re: Fucking Aliens, Folks
Japan loves ghosts and Yokai in popular culture and some element of it being perceived as more likely than aliens perhaps. But I think it’s more a pop culture thing. The US actually BELIEVES in aliens as real way more than I’ve seen across most of the rest of the world, as mainstream.zombie wrote:i don't know how much of your experience is indicative of the cultures as a whole. i never thought about that as just an american thing. kind of curious what makes us different in that way.

I don’t know why or what it’s indicative of though. It’s just an interesting fact I suppose.
