Can't decide on a top ten. So I'll just settle with the movies I have at the Tier-1 level of excellence and rank them from there.

I think it was more around gangsters and criminals in my mind. But which film were you thinking of that is crime but not criminal focussed?

i saw some mentions of the departed, which i've gotten crap for in such lists before. so i was just curious.

The Departed is probably in the same vein, if we're including Donnie Brasco, for example. And technically The Untouchables (my top pick) is about the police, not the gangsters, but it is firmly a Capone/Prohibition film so I think it counts.

If you want it, list it. I mean, if you were going down that route just remember to spell it correctly. Its "Infernal Affairs"

agreed. it's definitely a shortcoming.

Would John Wick qualify? It has a very different tone than the other movies listed, which is why I ask. More of an action/revenge movie I guess.

Who in the blue fuck gave you shit for the Departed when it totally fits into this grab bag? NOW the Dark Knight is where I think we all go huh?! But unless you lay strict ground rules, it does have Mob bosses and crime and shiz, so.

i think that john wick definitely would qualify. and also debated whether movies that aren't so grounded in our reality or era would qualify or not.

Then I would give John Wick, Heat and Gangs of New York honorable mention.

the dark knight is focused a lot on the joker. i think the crime and such drives the plot. batman is kind of just reacting to the mob bosses and the joker and such. he's not actually driving the plot to me. but if you guys think it doesn't qualify. or any of my other choices, let me know and i'll go with a different pick.

It's a good point, about the tone. Because initially I would have never thought of this, nor the Dark Knight and D also listed Sin City, all movies I fucking love, but not for this list. Yet they have merit on general terms alone.
