i have never seen your "favorite" slashers of the year. i may have to track them down.Jigsaw wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 12:54 pmSo I've seen *checks list* 33 horror movies from 1984. Of the ones I consider slashers, the best two are obviously Rocktober Blood and Satan's Blade.
Actually, both of those were quite solid in my view, but ANOES beats out The Final Chapter, and while I love The Final Chapter, it actually ties with Children of the Corn in terms of personal enjoyment (I give both movies an 8.5/10).

Re: September 17, 2024 CE
the 1980's was the golden age of horror films IMO.
Honorable mention to the 1970's, it also had some great films. The early 90's stuff was good but things began downgrading around 94/95 imo.
The 00's sucked mostly due to remake fever and the 2010's were just blah minus a few decent films.

Hey, those documents got lost following a computer crash, if my memory serves. I had some real corkers in there, too.Jason wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 1:20 pmStill waiting on Jig to finish his top 100 80s horror movies that he started 15 years ago.zombie wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 1:17 pmi have never seen your "favorite" slashers of the year. i may have to track them down.Jigsaw wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 12:54 pmSo I've seen *checks list* 33 horror movies from 1984. That said, I've long-since come to the conclusion that I'm not suited to lists like that. Once I've reviewed every horror movie I've seen from the 1980's, I can post my top 100 based on my ratings. I'll make that a top priority following October, just for you.

Horror movies haven't had any magic since around 1937, if we're being honest.

Re: September 17, 2024 CE
Satan's Blade seems to be on YouTube in full (and in HD, if the title can be believed). Can't find Rocktober Blood in an obvious place (YouTube, Tubi, Plex, etc.), but to be entirely honest, I can't remember a ton about it - just that I had fun with it.zombie wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 1:17 pmi have never seen your "favorite" slashers of the year. i may have to track them down.Jigsaw wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 12:54 pmSo I've seen *checks list* 33 horror movies from 1984. Looks like I gave it an 8/10, so it gets a thumb's up.
My statement was more a general one, not a true one.

Re: September 17, 2024 CE
sure. i think that the 1960s actually has a little bit of ground on the 70s ,horror quality-wise. but texas chainsaw massacre, exorcist, and halloween do a lot of heavy lifting in people's memories of the 1970s.Lazerus wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 1:32 pmCare to elaborate a bit on this?zombie wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 1:24 pmaside from the 1980s absolutely being the best, this has not been my experience with horror.Lazerus wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 1:22 pm the 1980's was the golden age of horror films IMO.

i love the 2000s horror output up until about 08 or so. which drops slightly for the decade, and then around 2012 or so it picks up again. i think the 2000s and 2010s may be my favorites after the 80s. the 90s might be second worst after the 40s, but i still think there is a lot to offer there too. it's too early to have much opinion on the 2020s but it does seem weaker than the past two decades in my opinion.
