I love poke. A new poke place opened up and I have been there an average of once per week. I know other poke fans who have also been there multiple times. That tells me that particular business, at minimum, has some core strength.
that is something that should be contemplated, exactly. i've been saying that the theater owners need to look at why they are losing people, and find a way to bring them back, rather than just squeezing those that are still going for more and more money. that isn't sustainable. it's short sighted greed, in the moment. rather than trying to figure out how to continue for the long term. and maybe they're too far gone at this point to survive, but that's on them. *shrug*
It is the culture, not their fault. Look at the survivors and you know who made the right decisions. Every single budget theater in my area is gone. They ranged from $1 to $5, depending on various factors. I wanna say there were four that I went to, and every single one is gone. We took a class trip to see Back to the Future at one of them.

What survived? The premium theaters who went digital and 3D and IMAX.

So why would you go out and spend all kinds of money to make a glorified DVD screening room when the others failed under better conditions (less access to home media)?

I never pointed a finger at you. You seem to think some of this stuff is worth saving. By all means, spend the money to help save it. Wishing upon a star isn't going to save it, but supporting the things that need supporting will. Go to the drive in, the independent theater, the modest budget movie. That helps.
do you not feel like they are worth saving, or that things should be done differently? cause the post below seems to indicate that you do.

but if you don't, let's just both agree that they're fucked the way they're going.

those theaters are also losing moviegoers every year. if they don't find a solution, they are not going to survive. squeezing a shrinking number of moviegoers for more and more money is not a solution. it's not sustainable. if they do not find a sustainable solution, they're gone too.

The market has dictated they are not worth saving. I don't go to theaters. I am part of that market. I can't complain about what happens.

Sure, people are little bitches. I complain about them all the time. I don't really complain about the consequences, though.

yes you do. :P you complain that movies are being forgotten or being "censored". you complain that studios are too focused on big blockbusters. you complain that theaters are not diverse enough with their content. those are all consequences of the system.

That is not "really complaining". It is like an airing of pet peeves and preferences. :p
