Been actively posting on Fight Evil (another horror forum), and we've had older members come and go, but I really didn't realize just how much work it is to get even a handful of active posters on a forum nowaday. Sort of disappointing.

Just something I've been thinking about recently.

It’s bloody difficult. Forums are dying I think. It’s not looking positive. In the modern age we should probably just add a Discord Group and chat to each other there. Sad times

Some people will never contribute anything to society except the burden/cost of keeping them alive. He admitted to the first degree murder of a police officer and at the age of 16 has a long extensive criminal record why should a single tax dollar be used to feed and house him.Sorry he should be dead already.
I disagree. I think recidivism in Nordic countries typifies the counterargume t. I also possibly just believe in the good in most people.

Long story short, I follow the national Green Party facebook page. I saw him spam comments to multiple posts that the Green Party made, and said something along the line of "By spamming comments, you look like a troll. If you want an actual discussion, I'm game."

To be entirely honest, I did not expect him to do so. When I woke up and saw I had a bunch of notifications on old posts, I was so confused, until I saw his name. :P

It's moderately pointless anyway, really. He insulted me, I insulted him, he made his points (which I think are idiotic), I made mine (which he thinks are idiotic), and nothing changed.

At the very least, I now know he's a real person and not just some type of shitty bot. *shrugs*

Indeed. I get the same feeling about the decline of forums. I'm not sure what exactly isn't appealing about a forum to the average internet user, but I remember both on HMF and FE that we didn't have a big problem with traffic or getting newer members every now and again. I know that both sites have had some downside, but it seems more lacking than what a bit of downtown would generally lead to.

Didn't know a few short paragraphs counted as long. Most of my reviews are twice as long as this. :P

Loser talk.

Forums are declining? Really? Facebook is one huge forum and among the most influential companies in the world. Any issues we have with drawing members here are squarely our own.

They range from me only talking about politics, to our aging core, to lack of awareness, etc. We do not draw people here because we are not committed to it. That is not right or wrong, but it is the reality.

Reminds me of the people who start hot dog carts and then fail and say it is because people in their city don't eat hot dogs. Really?

I do think we make it hard on ourselves, but we also are in an age where convenience trumps a lot and HMF is not fear on mobiles or tablets, and isn’t an app.

It’s not inconceivable we grow, but we aren’t doing it now.

Probably. Just sad because it's better than social media, shit disappears quick there where on the forums you can easily find other topics.

I like forums more. But they are not as instantly gratifying often.

I've spent thousands of hours in website development and my day job is a digital marketer and even I have trouble attracting members to a forum (outside of Facebook). Ten years ago I could have farted and drawn 10 members just from that, not anymore.

The only saving grace in having your own site/forum separate from Facebook is that you control it. If Facebook ever shuts down or gets rid of groups etc, all the effort people put into building up those communities will be gone at the snap of Facebook's fingers. And I'm kind of hoping at some it happens... not that I expect it to.

Basically, I feel like ranting like this old fella.
