Is Impeachment getting closer?

Post by showa58taro »

Twitter is ablaze with Cohen’s confirmation of two campaign finance violations and his direct implication of Donald Trump as the party that instructed him to do so.

I have yet to find any meaningful defense here from the right that will get this to go away. No surprise really but it feels like between this, collusion with Russia, everyday corruption, and obstruction it’s not a great time for the white house.

The Republicans are in survival mode now. They should have played the long game and would have ultimately been better off with Hillary winning. Now they've totally blundered another opportunity to control the government while looking like a modern day Ohio Gang. You gotta love U.S. politics. The natural born loser Democrats vs. the incompetent Republicans.

But "the truth is not the truth", is what they are telling us. Fucked up time we live in.

I don't see any way Trump gets a second term if the GOP cedes control of Congress, which I expect to happen. They are only putting up with him now because they are in control. If they lose that, they won't be able to get rid of the moron quickly enough.

It's crazy what the GOP is now. There was a heavy moderate, even liberal presence in the party for a long time and it was good for the country. No way someone like Nixon would be a Republican in modern times. So what are they now? Basically just a personality cult. No ideas, no philosophy, just along for the ride with a career con man. Sad to see a rich history sell itself down the drain.

Aerosmith has this badass song off their debut album that still applies today. It's called "Dream On". Great tune. Perhaps their best.

I think the GOP is fine and if they should go a bit toward the middle they would gain a bunch of Dems who see their party is heading hard left. Vice versa if Dems were first to head to the middle they would gain republican votes.

The Dems are not heading hard left, they need Wall Street and Silicon Valley money. The GOP is just a pit of vipers. They have no ideology of any kind, they are cockroaches who must adapt to stay alive by any means. Now they are taking the form of Trump boot lickers. Their only chance of surviving the shifting demographics are to constantly find new and innovative ways to stop people from voting. Otherwise, they're toast.

The Democrats may look like a parody with the clumsily executed identity politics but at least there are ideas within the party. There's always been so much in-fighting that it's hard for them to ever build a platform to please everyone on the left but to me that's actually a credit to people who actually view the world with some nuance and not just acting as some monolithic hive mind. (And the GOP used to have real factions capable of intellectual discourse; the Trump takeover has ended that). Now the GOP is just...nothing. Bring back coal! Build the wall! Lock her up! Bring back Blockbuster! Just nonsense.

I can’t see any way this just goes away. This goes way beyond just speculation. This is actual co-perpetrators confessing and going down for crimes. Not even Nixon had all of this happening to him.

It's kind of a dead end though, isn't it? Unlikely he'd be indicted so you have to bank on impeachment. And if the GOP snakes think they can survive this ordeal, they will do whatever they can to run interference for Trump. Their desperation to stay in power has always hovered over everything in this investigation.

The American people deserve better than what they are getting. Does criminality not matter anymore?

Comically, to Jason’s remark, Aerosmith have sent Trump a cease and desist letter saying he cannot play their songs anywhere, and that it’s their second request of this nature. Lol

Nothing matters to the GOP but winning. They are out of bullshit they can sell to people (at least as a long term strategy, they did manage to strike gold with the MAGA crowd in the short term). They can no longer limit themselves to working within democratic institutions. Take a look at the recent history of gerrymandering, they can't even afford to be subtle about it anymore. Attacks on voting rights. Blocking Garland. "Just win baby".
